Description

PATENT riviere.
PHILO S. VHITE, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
IMPROVEMENT IN FASTENINGS FOR NECKTIES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 97,33i, dated November 30, 1869; antedated November 24, 1869.
To all whom t indy concern.-
Be it known that I, PHILo S. WHITE, of Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Improvement on Neckties; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon,in which- Figure l is a perspective view of my invention. Fig. 2 represents my improvement as attached to a necktie. Figs. 3 and 4 are detailed parts.
In the accompanying drawings, A and B, Fig. 8, are two thin plates of metal, having two holes in each.
G, Fig. 1, is a wire, bent oblong from its center, to form a spring-loop, and brought nearly together at the points at d and e. This wireis then curved or bent from d and e, and the ends are fastened through the holes in the plates A and B, as shown in Fig. 4, the dotted lines in same figure representing the thickness of a necktie, towhich it is fastened. The two plates A and B serve to hold the spring loop C firm when attached to a necktie, as shown in Fig. 2.
To use my invention, the curveV on O at d and e is pressed back of the button on a shirt that fastens the neckband together. The loop springing open, the button passes between the necktie and wire C, bringing the spring-loop back of the button and spanning the button fastening or thread. The points at d and e springing together prevent the necktie from dropping off when worn on the neck. It can be easily put on and taken off, which is an advantage.
I do not claim a necktie as my invention; but
What I do claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent ofthe United States, is- The improved necktie-fastening herein described, consisting of the wire yoke O, in combination with the perforated plates A and B, all constructed and arranged substantially as shown, for the purpose specified.
PHILO S. VHI'IE.
Vitn esses WILLIAM W. RICKARD, CHARLEs L.Y SPENc/ER.
