SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 761,244, dated May 31, 1904.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, NORMAN A. MCDONALD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newaygo, in the county of Newaygo and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Manifolding-Books; and

I do declare the following to be a full,clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in manifolding-books; and the object of the invention is to produce a device of this character which will be convenient for use of merchants making entries and in which provision is made for producing carbon copies of the same and comprises various details of construction and combinations of parts, which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claim.

I illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this application, and in which drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved manifolding -,book, showing the arrangement of the carbon-sheets with relation to the leaves of the pad. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view through the pad with the cover closed.

Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a pad made up of leaves which are fastened together at one end, leaving the three edges of the leaves free, and G designates the back cover of the pad, while E designates the front or upper cover, said covers being continuous, and F designates a series of carbon-sheets which are fastened in any suitable manner at the free ends of the sheets of the pad, and R designates a block square in cross-section, which rests upon the fixed ends of the carbonsheets, and T designates a piece of material which is secured to the outer face of the back cover of the pad and passes up over said block and is secured to the three faces thereof. When the cover E is closed, it is adapted to project beyond the free edges of the leaves of the pad and rest upon said block.

When it is desired to use a carbon-sheet, the leaves of the pad are raised, together with the cover E, and a carbon-sheet is inserted between the blank leaves in the usual manner.

While I have shown a particular construction of apparatus illustrating my invention, it will be understood that the same may be changed, if desired, in certain details without in any way departing from the spirit of the invention. I

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

A manifolding-book comprising a back and cover made of a single piece of material, a series of leaves fixed to the hinged portions of said cover and back, a series of carbon-sheets secured at'their outer ends to the back of the book, a solid block resting upon the fixed ends of said carbon-sheets, a piece of material fitted over the top and side of said block and having an end engaging the outer face of the back of the book, as shown and described.
