Be it known that I, ALEXANDER LEvIsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Francisco', in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Manifold-Books, of which the following' is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in manifold-books, the object of my invention being to provide one that shall be simple in construction and convenient in use.' The book is particularly adapted for recording sales in stores, but may also be used as a shippingbook or for other purposes.

My invention therefore resides in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts for the above ends hereinafter fully specified, and particularly pointed out in the claim.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of the book, the leaves being slightly raised. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the book, showing the parts in the position in which the record has been made and before detaching off the sheet. Fig. 3 is a similar view showing the book in a position in which the sheet has been torn off and before folding the next sheet preparatory to writing thereon.

Referring to the drawings, l represents a plurality of record-sheets bound together at one end by stubs 2. Each sheet is dividedy by weakened lines 3 into three sections 4, 5, and 6, of which I is the original section, 5 a duplicate, and 6 a triplicate. Three sheets will generally be printed in blank, as shown at 7, the printing being in many cases, but not necessarily, identical for all three sections. Sections 4 and 6 are printed on one side and section 5 on the reverse side. To prepare the sheet for recording thereon, it is folded along the weakened lines in zigzag fold-that is to say, the second fold is in the opposite direction to the iirst fold. This brings the printing on all the three sections to face the same way-upward.

Attached to the book are two carbons 8 and 9. Of these the carbon 8 on the left is preferably secured with the stubs, while the carbon 9 on the right is secured to the edge of the backing l0.

The carbon 8 is inserted between the duplicate and triplicate sections, while the carbon 9 on the right is inserted between the original and duplicate sections.

Each carbon is preferably carbonized on the under side only, so as to leave an impression only on the face of the section immediately beneath it. It will be seen that with this construction after making the record on the original section of the sheet, the sheet can be taken hold of at the edge and readily drawn out and detached from the stub. The three sections are then separated and used for any desired purpose. The next lower sheet is then raised to insert the carbon 8 on one side and the carbon 9 on the other side and is ready for making a further record.

I have not herein shown a holder in which the manifold-book may be removably held, nor have I shown the manifold-book as made in sections each having a separate cardboard backing and united together, as these methods of arrangement are common in the art and can be applied to a book embodying my invention equally as well as to prior forms of manifoldbooks.

The principal advantage of this construction is the rapidity with which the sheet can be detached and a new sheet made ready to take a record. A further advantage, however, is the simplicity and cheapness of the construction.

I claim- A manifold-book comprising a suitable backing, a plurality of sheets each having an original, a duplicate, and a triplicate section separated by weakened lines, said sheets being attached together and to the backing at the outer edges of said triplicate sections opposite to the duplicate sections, a carbon secured at its edge to said attached edges, and a second carbon secured to the opposite edge of the backing, substantially as described.
