nif States wat@ 2,990,197 RECORD SYSTEM FOR CONTROLLING PRO- GRESSIVE DISTRIBUTION OF COUPONS John F. Briskey, 412 Empire Bldg., Birmingham 3-,1Ala. Filed Oct. 17, 1955, Ser. No. 540,793 3 Claims. (Cl. 283-63) vThis invention relates to a record system for controlling progressive distribution of coupons or a consumers cooperative merchandising system. It has for its main objects to create a desire on the part of the buying public to trade with retail merchants; to create means for the buying public to carry on the system without any effort on the part of the merchants; to provide profit for the buying public in a novel and exciting way and stay within the protection of all laws; and have a mechanical structure consisting of the use of coupon books with interlocking parts and identifying numbers. Y
Other objects and advantages will appear from the drawings and description.
By referring generally to the drawings, ,a part of this application, it will be observed that FIG. 1 is a plan view of the front cover of a V-star thrift book used in the system; FIG. 2 is a plan view of the back cover of the book shown in FIG. 1; FIG. 3 is a plan view ofthe back face of three identical inserts that comprise the last three sheets of a V-star thrift book; FIG. 4 is a plan view `of the front face of the inserts shown by FIG. 3; and FIG. 5 is a plan view of a coupon as used in the thrift book..
Y Similar reference numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawings in detail it will be seen that the system comprises a thrift book 1 having a number 100-B. It contains one hundred coupons 2 4worth 25 each and cost the purchaser $5.00. The back 3 -of the .book 1 and .$10.00 entitles the purchaser to a unit of three additional books from a sponsor having the number 100-B, the purchaser being designated as the first assistant and having the same number 1 00f-B. Thehack V3 of the bookvserves as a coupon that gives the purchaser the right to purchase the three additional books at the reduced price of $10.00. The back of the book is also numbered the same number as the front. It also has four oblong openings 4 in its lower half. Attached removably to and under the back cover is a label S with four numerals 1, 2, 3 and 4 that are visible through the openings 4. There are two additional similar labels and each is carbonized in the space 7 for use in tracing the numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4 onto the two additional labels.
In operation the system is carried through as follows: an individual acquires a V-star thrift book. The inside of the front cover explains how the book is to be used. The lback of the book serves as a coupon that gi-ves a person the privilege of acquiring three additional books at a reduced cost. He may retain the books for his own use or sell them at $5.00 each. The back cover has the same number printed on it as the front cover. It also has four openings in its lower part. Attached to and under the back cover is a label from another book with four numbers that are visible through the said four openings. Directly under the back cover there are three labels as the last three pages of the book which are identically numbered at the top with four additional numbers on each. One of these labels is removably attached to the back cover. These labels are used according to directions as indicated by 8. If the purchaser elects to acquire three additional books with the back cover of a V-star thrift book, he plainly prints his name and address on the back cover as indicated at 9. He tears it off on ICE Patented June 27, 1961 perforated line at top and gives it to a sponsor who is identified by being the bearer of a V-star thrift book that bears the number that is in the opening at the bottom of the back cover that is turned in, along with $10.00, and receives a unit of three- V-star thrift books. If the owner of the three books obtained in the unit wishes to dispose of one or all, he tears one pre-numbered label from the book that he used the back cover of to obtain the unit, slips it up under the back cover of the new book to where the numbers are centered in the openings, attach removably by pin or clip and then trace the numbers showing in the openings which will be transposed'by the carbonized spaces on the labels.
In other words the'plan Works as follows: a first party buys one V-star book for $5.00 containing V-star coupons. When shopping with merchants displaying the V-star emblem the first party presents one of the coupons at the time of making a $4.00 purchase and the merchant will give the first party 25-cash. For each additional $4.00 purchase an additional payment of 25 will be made. With the back cover of the book purchased the first party is eligible to purchase from one of the participating merchants a bonus package of three books for $10.00, each containing 100 coupons redeemable at 25 each. The first party may keep the books and use same or sell same at $5.00 each. The first party V-star book purchased has a number. Each book has its own number. When the first party uses the back cover of the first book purchased to purchase'three additional books the merchant will stamp his trade name," address and date on it, then the first party returns this cover to the party' from whom the book was purchased. The party whose number appears in the bottomwindow or opening of the cover is eligible for either $8.00 in merchandise or $6.00 cash. Thus by returning the back cover each time to the party from'whom the-book was purchased, it will work back-tothat individual party as means to goto the store whose name is stamped on this cover and receive the award. The said work baok'resultsv from ythe following procedure. When the three books are purchased instructions on each will show where and how to imprint the purchasers number in each. The purchasers number will as each book proceeds, work to the bottom of the page and it will be the purchasers turn to collect merchandise or cash. The purchaser must keep in mind that the party to whom one of the books is sold with the purchasers number on the back can use the back to purchase three additional books. The numbers of the purchaser and the number of the new buyer will appear on the three new books. The number of the original first party as purchaser on the original book progresses downward until as many as 81 V-star books may appear with the number of the original first party purchaser on each book. This cycle continues and each time the number of the first party purchaser appears at the bottom the first party purchaser will make a profit. As a result it is possible for the first party purchaser in each cycle to earn up to $648.00 in merchandise or $486.00 cash.
From the foregoing it will appear that the numbers used increase in units progressively and sponsors become designated as the system is carried along. To begin the system a book may be obtained from any source, such as a distributor in control of the system in certain territory, or from a merchant displaying a notice that he accepts V-star coupons from customers at 25 d each based on goods purchased in $4.00 units.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, I do not wish to limit same to the exact and precise details of the records and instructions used, but reserve the right to make all modifications and changes so long as they remain within the. scope of the invention and the following claims.
` Having described my invention I claim.
