TRADE-BOOK.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 469,56, dated February 23, 1892.

Application filed November 11, 1891. Serial No. 411,586. (No specimens.)

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WILLIAM R. M. COOPER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Findlay, in the county of Hancock and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trade-Books; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this specitica tion.

My invention relates to books to be used in retail cash commercial transactions on the cooperative system, whereby advantages and benefits accrue both to the dealer and purchaser, the increased sales by the dealer en abling him to make a discount to cash customers.

Theinvention consists in a numbered book comprising a cover of any suitable design, leaves containing the names of the dealers,

. sheets of detachable coupons representing a certain value and numbered to correspond with the number of the book, and leaves having imprinted thereon horizontal lines and vertical lines dividing the same into spaces for the dealer to sign his name with the date and amount of purchase, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.

These books are designed to be furnished to purchasers by advertising, mercantile, or other agencies, which agencies have previously secured the co-operation of the different dealers whose names appear in the books on the basis of a certain percentage on the aggregate amount of purchases made by the holder of the book.

In the accompanying drawing the figure represents a perspective View of a book made in accordance with my invention.

In the said drawing, the reference-letter A denotes the cover of the book, which is preferably made very ornamental in appearance and may have such distinguishing marks, letters, or characters on it as may be desired. The cover is also provided with a distinguishing number.

The letter B denotes the leaves containing the names and business addresses of the dealers who have entered into the scheme, the different trades of such dealers being preferably arranged in alphabetical order for the purpose of convenience. t

The letter C denotes the receipt-leaves, ruled or printed with a series of horizontal lines a and vertical lines I), dividing the leaf int-o spaces for the name of the dealer and date and amount of purchase, said leaves being headed with the Words Record of conpons delivered, and the spaces headed, respecti vely, with the Words Date, Dealer, and Amount, as shown.

which are divided into rectangular squares by means of vertical and horizontal lines of perforations, so as to be detachable, said spaces being provided with numerals representing certain values. sent such amounts and be arranged in such manner as may be found most desirable. The back of each of these coupons is marked with a number corresponding to the number of the book.

In carrying my invention into practice the books are furnished to the purchasers by the advertising or other agency which manufactures the same. When a purchaser makes a purchase of one of the dealers whose name appears in the book, he detaches a sufficient number of coupons to equal in value the amount of'the purchase and hands the same with. the .cash to the salesman, who will receipt for the same on the receipt-leaf, giving the date and amount of the purchase. The salesman Will deposit the coupons in a suitable receptacle provided for that purpose. When the purchaser has used up all the coupons in the book, he returns the latter to the agency and receives a certain amount in cash proportioned to the aggregate amount of his purchases. It will thus be seen that the dealers, purchasers, and the agency furnishing the books all mutually co-operate With each other, Whereby advantages and benefits will accrue to all.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is- A numbered book for retail commercial purposes, consisting of the cover, the leaves containing the names and business addresses of merchants or dealers, leaves divided by horizontal and vertical lines into spaces for the name of the dealer and the date and amount of each purchase to be entered, and
