BOTTLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 757,105, dated April 12, 1904.
Application filed June 9, 1903. Serial No. 160,731. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PETER J. GERMAIN, a citizen of the United States, residing atQuincy, in the county of Norfolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to bottles which are provided with means which prevents them from being used more than once without showing signs of being used previously; and it consists in the novel construction and combination of the parts hereinafter fully described and claimed. 5
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side view of the bottle-stopper, showing the bottle-neck in section. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the bottle stopper and neck.
A is the neck of a bottle of any approved form. This neck is provided with a longitudinal groove 6 in one side.
C is the bottle-stopper, which is formed of glass or other similar hard material. This stopper is provided with a circumferential groove 0 at about the middle of its length, and (Z represents longitudinal projecting ribs on its end portions, which engage with the said groove 6 when the stopper is pushed into the bottle-neck.
D is a ring of cork or other similar soft packing material inserted in the groove 0 of the stopper.
The stopper is forced into the bottle-neck until its upper end is flush with the top of the neck, and it cannot be removed because of the hardness of the material of which the stopper is formed, which prevents a corkscrew or other similar extracting implement from being used effectually. The contents of the bottle are poured out after pushing in the stopper, and the stopper cannot then be removed from the bottle, because it is impracticable to get any tool to hold it and to guide its ribs into the groove of the neck.
What I claim is 1. The combination, with a bottle-neck provided with a longitudinal groove, of a stopper of hard material having longitudinal ribs on its end portions which fit in the said groove and having also a circumferential groove at its middle portion, and a ring of packing material arranged in the said circumferential groove.
2. The combination, with a bottle-neck, of a stopper of hard material having a circumferential groove, interlocking devices formed on the adjacent surfaces of the said neck and stopper and permitting the stopper to slide longitudinally in the neck, and a ring of packing material arranged in the said groove.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
PETER J. GERMAIN.
Witnesses:
