.To a'ZZ whonsit. may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH E. BAROLAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bon ling Green, in the county of Warren and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description ofthe invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvemnets in bottles and Stoppers or seals therefor; and it has for its objects, among others, to provide a simple and cheap construction of bottle and means for sealing the same, whereby the bottle can be used but once and retain its identity, thus preventing its being refilled with an inferior or imitation article after it has been once opened.
The invention is capable of embodiment in various forms, some of ,which are herein illustrated. y
Other Objects and advantages of the invention will hereinafterappear, and the'novel features thereof will be specifically defined by the appended claim.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings,'which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification, and in whiehp Figure l is a vertical section through a bot tlc embodying my nvention'. Fig. 2 is a like View of another form.' Fig. 3 is a vieiv of another form in `which the seal is arranged below the top ofthe bottle.
Like letters of reference indicate like parts throughout the several views.
Referring now to the detailsof the drawings by letter, A designates the bottle, which may be of any desired shape and capacity, and, as seen in Fig. 1, it is formed with the two metallic strips B, which are blown therein, 4
one on each shoulder below the neck, the strips being of any suitable material and provided with a series of holes h. One of' these strips is preferably longer than the other, as shown; i
C is` the stopper, inserted after the bottle A has been filled, and then a ring D, of metal or other suitable material and having a shank or point d, is pressed into the stopper, as
shown in Fig. l, after which one of the strips,
the longer, is passed through this ring and a seal E, of lead or other material, placed on the joined ends of the two strips. The ring inserted inthe stopper prevents the removal of the sealand's'trips and stopper Without cutting the strips, after which the stopper maybe .withdrawnfby the ring. Then once opened, the bottle cannot be used as before,
as new strips cannot beattached to the bottle.
In .the form shown in Fig. 3 the-ring is dispensed with and the cork inserted below the month of the bottle, and the seal which con 4nects the strips is seated within the neck below the mouth ofthe bottle and the cork cannot be removed till the strips are out.
In Fig. 2 I have shown the bottle as formed with the loops or recesses F at opposite sides of: the neck, which terminate below the top of the. neck, and after the bottle has been lled and corked a strip G, of glass or other material, is bent across the month'of the bottle and each end inserted in `these recesses,
and then the latter are lled with any suit-l able cement, which readily hardens and prevents removal Of the strip, which must be broken in order to getaccess to the contents of the bottle.
Vhat is claimed as new is A bottle blown with bendable strips in opposite sides thereofv at the neck, said strips being provided with a plurality of holes and one longer than the other combined with a ring adapted'to be inserted in the stopper, and a seal on the ends of the strips passed through said ring, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presenceof two subseribing witnesses. p y
l JOSEPH E. BARGLAY. Witnesses:
P. J. HILL, l s Y W. H. SKAGGS.
