Description

'R e. BARS. BOTTLE STOPPER.
APPLICATION FILED APILB. IBIB- RENEWED JAN- 3l| l9l9- Patented Sept. 2,1919.
1 I z I wwwy m mw v lggav 6 RICHARD GUSTAV BARS, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
BOTTLE-STOPPER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 2, 1919.
Application filed April 8, 1916, Serial No. 89,923. Renewed January 31, 1919. Serial No. 274,382.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RroHAno G. BARS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle-Stoppers, of
- which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to bottle stoppers, and more particularly to a stopper especially adapted for use in connection with perfume bottles.
An object of the invention is to provide a stopper which is not readily removable from the bottle neck, and to provide a nozzle for the cork which is securely fastened therein, thus rendering it ditlicult to dilute the contents of the bottle or to refill the same.
Another object is to improve the construction and increase the eificiency and utility of devices of this character.
lVith these and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and claimed.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of a bottle neck showing the improved stopper applied thereto;
Fig. 2 is a section on the line 22 of Fig. 1;
FFig. 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of ig. 1.
Referring to the drawings by numerals, 1 designates a bottle neck, the bore of which is provided, a suitable distance from the upper end of the neck with oppositely disposed recesses 2. A closure or stopper 3 is adapted to be placed within the neck of the bottle and is provided with a band 4 which passes over the top thereof, extends downwardly upon either side thereof and is provided with projections 5 for engagement with the recesses 2 to prevent removal of the cork after the same has once been inserted within the neck.
A tapering tube or nozzle 6 is mounted concentrically within the closure, and at its upper end is provided with a cap 7.
In order to hold the nozzle rigidly within the closure, prongs 8 are struck from opposite sides of the nozzle and are adapted to be embedded in the material of the closure. At its lower end the nozzle is flared and turned upon itself to form a bead 9, this bead serving to prevent movement of the nozzle in an upward direction.
It will be Seen that by forming the nozzle of a taperin piece of material, the ready dispensing of the liquid will be greatly facilitated, and that any one trying to refill the bottle with liquid through the small end of the nozzle against the contained air within the bottle will meet with great difficulty.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings it is thought that the construction and open ation of the device will be clearly understood and while I have herein shown one specific form of my invention I do not wish to be limited thereto, except for such limitations as the claims may import.
What is claimed is 1. As an article of manufacture, a bottle stopper comprising a closure of penetrable material, a nozzle projecting through and beyond one end of said closure, said nozzle at its sides having prongs cut from the material of the nozzle and adapted to be bent outwardly and forced at the same time into the substance of the closure after the nozzle has been passed therethrough for irremovably connecting the nozzle with the closure.
2. A bottle stopper comprising a closure made of penetrable material adapted to fit tightly within the neck of the bottle, a tapered tubular nozzle extending longitudinally through the closure and having an outwardly rolled bead or flange on its larger inner end to bear against the inner end of the stopper, and a plurality of pointed prongs formed of the material of the nozzle at the sides thereof and adapted to be bent outwardly into the substance of the closure within the ends thereof after the nozzle has been seated within the closure to permanently lock the nozzle from movement in any direction.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
RICHARD GUSTAV BARS.
