Description

B. L. FETNEB. DOSAGE BOTTLE. APPLICATION FILED MAY 17. 5916 Patent/M5111 1?,1917. 2
BENJIMAN L. FETNER, 0F AMERICUS, GEORGIA.
DOSAGE-BOTTLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 1'7, 191% Application filed May 17, 1916. Serial No. 98,120.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJIMAN L. FETNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Americus, in the county of Sumter, State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dosage-Bottles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full,
clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and usethe same.
This invention relates to dosage bottles and particularly to an improved construction of closure for such bottles.
The object of the invention is to provide an improved closure for bottles through the instrumentality of which a fixed and con stant amount of the contents of the bottle can be delivered at each pouring.
A further object of the invention is to provide a closure for bottles of the type named which will be simple in construction, efficient and accurate in use, and which can be manufactured at a small cost.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts in the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a vertical section of the upper portion of a bottle showing the improved closure completely inserted in the neck of the bottle;
Fig. 2, a view'similar to Fig. 1 showing the bottle inverted and the closure partially withdrawn so as to isolate the contents of the bottle in the neck from the contents in the body of the bottle;
Fig. 3, a view similar to Fig. 2 with the closure withdrawn a suflicient distance to deliver a given quantity of the contents of the bottle; and
Fig. 4, a vertical longitudinal section through the closure.
Referring to the drawings 10 indicates the body of a bottle and 11 the neck.
The improved closure is shown as comprising an outer stopper 12 and an inner stopper 13. The stoppers 12 and 13 are connected by a single length of wire 15- which is carried through the stopper 12 and then bent to form a loop 16 constituting a finger hold the wire 15 is then returned through the stopper 12 and the contiguous portions thereof are twisted about the rod 1 1, the free ends of said wire being then carried through the stopper 13 and bent against the under side of the latter. It will be noted that the stoppers 12 and 13 are connected together in spaced relation by the rod 14 and wire 15 at such a distance apart that when the stopper 12 is completely inserted in the neck 11 the stopper 13 will be disposed slightly beneath the lower end of the neck so that when the bottle is inverted a predetermined quantity of its contents will enter the neck. Upon then withdrawing the stopper 12 the stopper 13 will enter the neck before the stopper 12 is completely withdrawn and thus isolate the contents in the neck from the contents in the body. By
further withdrawal of the stopper 12 the.
contents in the neck can be discharged.
What is claimed is A closure for bottles comprisingspaced inner and outer stoppers, a rod between the stoppers, a single length of wire connecting said stoppers, said wire being carried outwardly and inwardly through the outer stopper and bent to form a loop on the outer end of the outer stopper, the contiguous pore tions of said wire being twisted about the rod and the free ends of the wire being carried through the inner stopper and bent upon the under side of the latter.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
BENJIMAN L. FETNER.
