Description

J. MADIR. BOTTLE STOPPER.
APPLIOATION FILED SEPT. a, 1904.
WITNESSES- rims,
BOTTLE-STOPPER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 10, 1906.
Application filed September 8, 1904. Serial No. 223,750-
To ctZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JUAN MADIR, a subject of the Kingof Spain, residing at 29 Bliicherstrasse, 'Frankfort-on-the-Main, in the Empire of Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle-Stoppers, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to a stopper for bottles, jugs, and the like which permits of great cleanliness if manufactured of the proper materials. In the disposition of the various parts the india-rubber ring-or packing hithertoused is avoided, owing to its deleterious efi'ect up on the liquid within the bottle.
In the drawings, Figure 1 shows a bottle provided according to the invention, the cork being removed from the stopper. Fig. 2 shows a cork, and Fig. 3 is a plan view of the cap.
The stopper 1 is made of pottery or other such ware and has on its inner face a circular recess within which is inserted a cork 3. For maintaining this in its proper position small projections 4 are provided on the inner periphery of the recess in the stopper 1, by which the moving of the cork is absolutely prevented without providing any special means for its retention. The air Within the recess in the stopper escapes through the small channel 5, provided in the stopper 1, on the introduction of the cork within the stopper.
By closing the stopper upon the bottleneck by means of well-known mechanism, such as that illustrated, the stopper comes to lie over the mouth of the neck and the cork only enters within the mouth of the neck, so that thus the cork alone comes into contact with the liquid in the bottle. Thus the greatest cleanliness results, besides which the deleterious effect in the use of india-rubber is avoided in such a construction of stopper which permits of the use of a cork.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination in a bottle stopper of a cap having a recess within it, in the side of which recess longitudinal channels are provided for the escape of air, and a cork adapted to fit within the recess of said cap, substantially as described. I
2. In' a bottle-stopper, the combination of a cap having a recess therein, projections on the side of said recess, and a cork, said cork being adapted to fit into said recess and to be retained therein by said projections, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification. in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JUAN MADIR.
