UNITED STATES PATENT onnron.
BOTTLE.
Specification of Letters Patent;
katented June 26, 1906.
Application filed August 23, 1905. Serial No. 275,395.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, RUDOLPH SAUER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottles; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, referencebeing had to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in bottles, and has for its object to provide a bottle of suoli construction that it will be impossible or at least highly difficult to refill it without breaking a seal by which the original filling of the bottle is identified as the product or goods from a certain house using such seal, thus serving to prevent the counterfeiting of the liquid contents of the bottle. This and other objects I attain by the novel construction and arrangement of parts illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved bottle. Fig. 2 is a central sectional view on the line a a in Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings by referencenumerals, 3 designates the bottle, which may be cylindrical or of any other form. In the side of the body of the bottle is provided a hole 4, through which the bottle is filled while lying in a horizontal position. The hole is then closed by a cork or other stopper 5, which is covered by a seal 6, formed of seal ing-wax or other suitable material and bearing some imprint by which the goods in the bottle is identified as the genuine of its kind. Thus in Fig. 1 the star and the letters N. S. and B might be known as the trademark or mark identifying a certain preferred brand of brandy or other liquor.
It will be observed that the cork is inserted in a slightly funnelshaped or iiared collar 7, projecting partly inside and partly outside the bottle, though it may be flush with the outside, and near its outer edge it has an internal annular groove 8, in which the seal engages.
The upper end 9 of the neck 10 of the bottle is of a somewhat globular form, preferably formed with the shoulder 11 about its lower part. It is closed or solid in its very top, but
provided with two diametrically opposite ducts 12, which slant downward with their outer ends. These ducts or openings are closed by a rubber cap 13, which fits tightly about the head 9 and has its lower edge formed with a collar 14, which taking hold below the shoulders 11 helps to hold the cap firmly in place, while it also enables the op `erator to get better hold of the cap when is not from the original or genuine goods bottled only by the party referred to by the seal. To fill the bottle through the neck will obviously be impossible or at least so dificult that it will not pay to do so, as such filling could only be attempted with the bottle in a position that would not allow the air in it to escape and give room for the liquid.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A bottle comprising a body with a hole at one side adapted to be corked and sealed, and a neck solid in its top and having two opposite side openings, and suitable means for closing said side openings, said openings in the neck forming ducts extending on a slant out and downward from the regular inner canal of the neck.
2. A bottle comprising a body with a hole at one side adapted to be corked and sealed, and a neck solid in its top and having two opposite side openings, and suitable means for closing said side openings, said openings in the neck forming ducts extending on a slant out and downward from the regular inner canal of the neck, and the annular shoulder 11 below said openings to form a recess for the purposes set forth.
3. A bottle comprising in combination, a body with a hole at one side adapted to be closed and sealed, a neck with a head solid in its top and having two opposite out and downwardly-slanting side openings commu- IOO IIO
