BOTTLECLOSURTE.
Speciflcatlonot Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 2, tint-5i,
Application filed February a, rate. Eleria1No.fi,22t.
With this object'in view, the invention consists in the construction, arrangement and combination of the parts of a bottle closure which will be hereinafter fully described and afterward specifically claimed.
In order that the construction and operation thereof may be readily comprehended, I have illustrated an approved form and a modification thereof in the accompanying drawings, and will now proceed to specifically describe the same, having reference to said drawings in which- Figure 1 represents a view in elev tion of a bottle having my improved stopper in position thereon. Fig. 2 representsa sectional view taken on a plane cutting vertically through the upper part of the bottle and the stopper, the main body of the bottle being shown in. elevation. Fig. 3 represents a transverse sectional view taken on the plane indicated by the broken line 3-3 in Fig. 1, looking downward. Fig. 4 represents a seetional view through the upper part of a bottie and a stopper thereon of modified form, the main body of the bottle being broken away.
Like reference characters indicate the same parts'wherever they appear in a plurality of the figures of the drawings.
Referring specifically to the drawings, 5
. indicates the body of a bottle of any desired form which is provided with a mouth or neck 6, of the usual substantially cylindrical y,
form.
Referring to Figs. 1, 2 and 3, my stopper comprises a main body 7 from which depends a cylindrical flange 8 adapted to fit closely over the neck 6. Within the cylindrical depending flange of the stopper, and centrally located therein, is a depending cen tral projection 9, shorter than the depending flange 8, around which is fitted a cup-shaped cork 10 of the same length as the depending flange 8 and of a diameter to snugly lit within the neck 6 of the bottle.
The outer surface of the neck of the bottle and the inner surface of the depending rigid flange 8, which surfaces contact with each other in closing the bottle, are preferably ground in order to afford a close, non-leakable oint. W hen the stopper thus described is placed upon the bottle the cork l0 fits closely within the neck of the bottle and the dependin flange 8 its closely around the neck of t e bottle and thus a tight, secure, non-lockable closure is effected.
In the modification shown in Fig. 4-, the main body 5 and the neck 6 of the bottle, and the flange 8 of the stopper are identical with those oi": the other figures hereinbefore de scribed. in this modification, however, the cork 10 is omitted. and a central projection 90 is substituted for the projection 9, said projection 90 being of substantially the same length as the flange Sand of a size to snugly fit within the neck of the bottle, the outer surface of the flange 90 and the inner surface of the flange 8, as well as both the inner and outer surfaces of the neck of the bottle being ground to ailord a close, non-. lickable joint.
The construction, operation, and utility of the invention will be readily understood from the foregoing and while the exact construction has been hereinbegtore specifically described it will [be obvious tothose skilled in the art to which the invention most nearly appertains that many slight changes and variations may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is,
A bottle stopper, comprising a main body main body 7 and the depending having two concentric depending portions forming a bottle-neck receiving groove, one of said depending portions being compressible and the other rigid, said rigid portion having a ground inner face to form a sealing face to engage the exterior of the bottle-v neck, and said compressible portion adapted to form a seal With the interior of the bottie-neck and allow the seating of the rigid portion. k In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
