To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALDO PAvnsI, a subject of the King of Italy, and residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Non-Refillable Bot tles, of which the following is a specifioatlon, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to bottles, jugs, ars and similar vessels, and the object thereof is to provide a vessel of this class having a neck with a neck attachment or construction, whereby when the vessel has once been filled and closed or sealed, it may be emptied of its contents, but cannot be refilled or reused.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompartying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is a central vertical section through the neck of a bottle or similar vessel provided with my improvement ;Fig. 2 a similar view but showing the bottle or vessel inverted ;Fig. 3 a side View of a valve which I employ, and which is shown in section in Figs. 1 and 2.
In carrying my invention into effect, as shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, I provide a bottle or vessel of the class specified having a neck a within the top portion of which is an annular enlargement a forming an inner annular shoulder a which constitutes a valve seat having a port or passage a through which the contents of the bottle or vessel may be discharged and on which is placed a cup-shaped valve 6 the bottom surface of which is formed on the are of a circle and is adapted to close the port or passage a The rim of the valve 6 is provided with raised lugs or projections 6 any desired number of which may be employed, and but four of which are shown, and the body portion of said valve is provided with laterally or radially directed lugs or projections 6 four of which are preferably employed.
I also provide the neck of the bottle or vessel with a closure cap 0 having a depending skirt or rim 0 which fits in the annular enlargement in the top of the neck and said cap is provided centrally with a tubular discharge 0 having, in the form of construction shown, a raised collar or rim 0 and in the bottom of the tubular discharge 0 is a such that while the valve is freely movable within certain limits, it is always in position for use, and cannot be inverted or turned over, and the lugs or projections on the body of the valve and the lugs or projections 6 on the top or rim portion of the valve facilitate the operation thereof and hold it in proper position at all times.
In the use of a bottle of this class, it is first filled with the desired contents, after which the valve is placed in position, after which the cap 0 is secured in place, after which the tubular passage 0 in the top portion of said cap is closed by a cork or stopper, in the usual manner, and when it is desired to pour out the contents of the bottle, or discharge a portion thereof, the cork or stopper is removed and the bottle inverted, as shown in Fig. 2. In this position of the bottle, the valve 6 moves downwardly or forwardly and rests on the annular shoulder a and the contents of the bottle will flow out freely around the valve and through the ports or passages c, as will be readily understood, and this operation may be continued or repeated until the bottle is entirely emptied.
If an attempt be made to refill the bottle by pouring liquids thereint'o, the valve 6 will assume the position shown in Fig. l and no liquids can enter the bottle, and if an attempt be made to force liquids into the bottle when said bottle is held in the position shown in Fig. 2, the said valve will rise to its seat a and no liquids can enter the bottle. 7
Of course, the valve I; may be made of any preferred material, as may also the cap 0, but said parts are preferably made of glass or porcelain.
The top rim portion of the valve 6 is of greater diameter than the tubular discharge 0 through the cap 0, and the position of said valve in the construction shown, is such that" a Wire or instrument of any kind' or class could not be inserted through the orts or passages 0 and successfully used in an ef-i fort to interfere With the operation of the valve as described, and other changes in and modifications of my improvement may be made, within the scope of the appended claim, without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages.
Having fully described my invention, What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A bottle or similar vessel provided with a neck Within the top portion of which is an annular valve seat on which is placed a cupshaped valve movable longitudinally of the neck, and a closure cap secured on said neck and having a central discharge in-the bottom of which is a transverse member having ports or passages, said central discharge being provided with a depending annular skirt portion adapted to bear on said annular "valve seat, the rim portion of said valve being" of greater diameter than said transverse member and being provided with raised lugs or projections and the body of said valve being also provided with lateral lu s or projections Which form guides there or in its I movement in the neck, the outward move- ALDO PAVESI.
