ATENT rrrcRm SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 745,073, dated November 24, 1903.
Application filed September 23, 1903. s r l N l74126Z- (N0 m l- To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HERBERT PREVEAR, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Leominster, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Combs, of which the following is a specification. 7
My invention relates to an improvement in combs, and has more particularly for its object to provide a comb having a pompadourforming skeleton framework of such form and construction as to present a very strong structure which will at the same time be extremely light.
A further object is to provide a device of the above character which will be ornamental and which will support the hair in pompadour form without the use of other devices.
A practical embodiment of my invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, in which- 1 Figure 1 represents the comb in top plan. Fig. 2 represents a front view of the same, and Fig. 3 represents an end View of the comb.
The curved comb comprises a body 1 and a series of teeth 2 projecting forwardly therefrom.
The pompadour-forming framework of skeleton form which is carried by the comb is constructed and arranged as follows: A plu rality of rings 8 is rigidly attached to the top of the body 1 transversely thereto and at intervals, the outer rings being the smallest and the central ring being the largest. The outer portions of the rings are connected by a plurality of curved longitudinal bars l, which bars, together with the rings, produce a double-tapered framework of skeleton form around which the hair may be wrapped to produce a pompadour effect. These rings and bars may be made very light and are preferably made of the same material as the comb.
While I have shown the framework in the present instance as composed of five transverse rings and three longitudinal bars, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the particular number of rings and. bars,as they may be varied in numbers to suit different requirements.
A very graceful pompadour efiect is produced by the double-tapered form of the framework, and the comb at the same time is very comfortable to the wearer and keeps the hair in good condition by allowing the free circulation of air within the framework.
What I claim is 1. The combination with a curved comb, of a pompadour-forming framework carried thereby comprising a plurality of rings and curved bars connecting the rings.
2. The combination with a curved comb, of a pompadour forming framework carried thereby comprising a plurality of transverse rings and a plurality of longitudinal bars connecting the rings.
3. The combination Withacurved comb, of a pompadour forming framework carried thereby comprising a plurality of transverse rings and a plurality of curved longitudinal bars connecting the outer portions of the rings together.
4. The combination with a curved comb, of
a pompadour-forming framework carried thereby comprising a plurality of transverse rings of varying sizes, the smallest rings being at the outer ends of the comb and a plurality of curved longitudinal bars connecting the said rings.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as,
my invention I have signed my name, in presence of two witnesses, this 19th day of September, 1903.
HERBERT PREVEAR.
