SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 298,832, dated May 20, 188%.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LoUIs DANNI-IAUSER, of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Under-Garments, of which the following is a specification.

My improvement consists in the combination, with a band provided with a section or sections of elastic material, of under-garments severally provided with a draw-string and with means whereby they may be detachably secured to the band for the purpose of being supported thereby. By this combination of parts I can leave the garment or garments quite loose, fasten the band tight about the waist, and still afford a great deal of freedom for the various evolutions of the body, owing to the yielding nature of the elastic section or sections in the band.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view of a petticoat embodying my improvement. Fig. 2 is a view of a pair of drawers embodying my improvement, and Fig. 3 is a view of a band embodying my improvement.

The petticoat and the pair of drawers severally lack a band, and have in lieu thereof draw-strings a, fitted in a pocket, 1). Below the pocket in which the draw-strings are contained each garment is provided, as here shown, with a number of eyelets, 0. The band may be made,in the main, of any suitable woven material; but it is provided with a section or sections of an elastic materialsuch, for instance, as a loosely woven fabric having strands of india-rubber incorporated into it. This band is provided at intervals with hooks e, which may engage with the eyelets 0 of the garments before described. The ends of the band may be united by strings f, or by any other suitable devices.

By my improvement I not only enable one band to do service for a number of garments, but I render it practicable to leave thegarments loose around the waist and to merely tighten the band, and then such a yielding pressure will be exerted around the waist that it will not produce any discomfort.
