Description
United States Patent HAIR NETS Arthur M. Herschensohn, Scarsdale, N. Y.
Application November 13, 1953, Serial No. 391,908
9 Claims. (Cl. 132-49) The present invention relates to a ladys hair net.
The principal object of this invention is to provide a novel and improved hair net construction which will hold ringlets, .curls and waves of a coiffured head in place and is particularly suited for bobbed hair and upsweep hair styles.
Another object hereof is to provide a novel and improved hair net affording restricted zones which pocket ringlet formations in the hair and hold them intact.
A further object hereof is to provide a novel and improved hair net aifording resiliency to an appreciable band of its mesh material commencing from its rim and extending towards the crown portion of the net, using a very minimum of elastic material in association with the strands of the mesh.
A further object of this invention is to provide the hair net with the mentioned resilient band which lends decorative value to the article.
Other objects and advantages will become apparent as this disclosure proceeds.
In the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Fig. 1 is a pictorial view of a hair net embodying the teachings of this invention.
Fig. 2 shows a length of web of net material so constructed that the hair net herein can be easily made therefrom. The web is here shown in taut condition and is drawn to a reduced scale.
Fig. 3 shows a fragment of the web of Fig. 2, with but one of the elastic filaments associated therewith.
Fig. 4 shows said fragment with its two associated elastic filaments. The web here is in taut condition.
Fig. 5 is similar to Fig. 4, but the web is loose and the special elastic filaments thereof are in unstretched condition.
In the practice of this invention, substantially triangular or other shaped areas of net material of the hair net body, are bordered by elastic filaments which stretch as the net is made taut, thereby creating niches or pockets to cache ringlets, curls or waves of the coifiure; such elastic bordered areas having their bases preferably at the rim, and extend towards the crown of the hair net.
In the drawings, the numeral designates generally a web of mesh formed by two series of pliable crossing strands 16, 17 positioned on the bias. Said web is provided with selvage comprising the elastic filaments 18 and 19 which are in stretched condition when the web is taut and there are the elastic filaments 20 and 21, arranged in sinuous fashion on the web, one along each of the selvage filaments 18 and 19 respectively to form a row of triangles therewith. Said sinuous filaments are preferably bent zig-zag on the mesh surface to lie along strands of said web 15. At all intersections of said strands, they are knotted to each other in the usual manner of hair net structure as indicated at 22; the filaments 20 and 21 being engaged by such knot structures in their line and said strands 16 and 17 are also knotted where they meet the selvage filaments, to the latter. When the web 15 is taut, the elastic filaments 20, 21 are also in stretched condition.
The hair net 23 may be made in the usual fashion by taking a suitable length of the web 15, gathering all points along line or edge AB and tying a knot 24, and by gathering all the points along edge CD and tying a knot 25, thereby forming the required pouch structure shown in Fig. 1. 7
When the hair net 23 is worn on a head, the triangles made by the elastic filaments will be comparatively large as shown at 26, while when the net is off the head, such triangles will be comparatively smaller as shown at 26'.
In donning the hair net 23, the user can arrange that ringlets, curls or waves of the coifr'ure be cached respectively by the mesh material across and between the triangles 26 respectively, so that they lie singly or two each in sort of recesses or pockets; the lengths of the filaments 20 and 21 lying between such cached hair formats, hugging the scalp, and so do the selvage filaments 18, 19 which form the mouth rim of the net. A cached ringlet is shown at 27 and a cached curl at 28. It is of course presumed that the fragment shown in Fig. 4, is part of a net being worn.
This invention is capable of various forms and numerous applications without departing from the essential features herein disclosed. It is therefore intended and desired that the embodiment shown herein be deemed illustrative and not restrictive and that the patent shall cover all patentable novelty herein set forth; reference being had to the following claims rather than to the specific description herein to indicate the scope of this invention.
I claim:
1. A hair net comprising a pouch of pliable net material made of intersecting strands extending from the rim of such pouch, an elastic filament arranged around the rim of said pouch, another elastic filament arranged in sinuous fashion on and around at least part of the rim region -of said pouch; said elastic filaments substantially enclosing and forming borders around portions of said net material; said bordered portions constituting a comparatively small part of the entire pouch and the elastic filament which is around the rim, bordering each of said portions, means securing intersecting strands of the net material at substantially all their points of intersection and means securing said elastic filaments onto strands of said net material to remain positioned along the rim and in sinuous format respectively on said pouch; said elastic filaments being in stretched condition upon extension of the pouch.
2. The hair net as defined in claim 1, wherein the sinuous elastic filament is along predetermined strands of the net material and is secured to such strands.
3. The hair net as defined in claim 1, wherein the sinuous elastic filament is along predetermined strands of the not material and is secured to such strands at points where other strands intersect such predetermined strands.
4. The hair net as defined in claim 1, wherein the elastic filaments completely enclose and border the mentioned portions of the net material and contact each other; said elastic filaments being secured to each other at all points they are in contact with each other.
5. The hair net as defined in claim 1, wherein strands of the net material intersect and are secured to one another at their points of intersection within the elastic bordered portions mentioned.
6. The hair net as defined in claim 1, wherein the mentioned elastic bordered portions are each substantially triangular in shape.
7. The hair net as defined in claim 6, wherein the mentioned triangular portions have their bases along the rim of the pouch and extend on the net material towards the crown of the hair net. Y
8. The hair net as defined in claim 6, wherein the mentioned triangular portions encircle the hair net around the rim thereof.
' 9a The hair net-as defined'in claim 6, wherein strands of the netiinaterial intersect and are. secured to one another at their points i of intersection, Within the triangular portions mentioned;
