Description

A. GoLFn-:Ri
' LADYS SCARF Filed April 10, 1945 Patented Dec. 31, 1946 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 3 Claims.
My invention relates generally to a new and useful article ci apparel, and particularly to an article of apparel which may be worn, as desired, as a scarf, a head covering, a sash, or in other ways and for other purposes.
It is the principal object of my invention to provide an article of apparel, which comprises an endless loop of material, secured together along opposite edges of the loop, short of the ends of the loop.
It is another object of my invention to provide an article of apparel which comprises an endless loop of material, the opposite sides of which loop are secured together, as by stitching, only along a portion of the loop midway of the length thereof, and spaced from the ends of the loop, defining two openings through the loop, one at each end thereof.
Other and further objects of my invention will be pointed out specifically hereinbelow, and still others will be apparent from the following description of an illustrative embodiment.
In the drawing annexed hereto, forming a part hereof,
Figure l is a perspective view of one form of article constructed according to and embodying my invention;
Fig. 2 is a perspective View of my article of apparel arranged to form a scarf with bows and a depending wing;
Fig. 3 is a similar view of my article of apparel worn merely as a scarf; and
Fig. 4 is a similar view of the article of invention arranged to form a scarf or sash with bows and depending Wings,
Referring to the drawing, my article o ap parel, indicated generally by reference numeral I0, comprises an elongated endless loop of material of any suitable or desired type, color or nature. 'I'he loop as a complete entity may, but need not be, formed of a plurality of bias-cut pieces sewed together, as indicated at II, i2 and I3. The opposite sides 20, 20 of my loop, may be secured together, as by stitching 22, only along a portion of the loop I4, spaced from the loop ends 24, 26, all to form two smaller loops I5 and I6.
When the article of my invention is to be used as a scarf, as shown in Fig. 2, the middle portion I4 of the endless loop is wound loosely about the neck, the loop or wing I5 is wound about loop or Wing I6 to make a knot, while the major portion of the length of the loop or wing I5 is drawn out of the surrounding loop or wing I6 to form a graceful cravat.
When forming the article of my invention into a loosely knotted jabot as shown in Fig. 3 the endless loop is draped about vthe neck, one wing or loop I6 coiled around the other wing I5, and then the wing or loop I6 threaded through the opening through wing or loop I5.
It will be understood that I have shown and described a few examples of the many possible ways to practically knot and wind my device in the most presentable manner to form a graceful cravat, sash or other article of wearing apparel, as the user desires and as the users ingenuity permits. It will be obvious that any device may be wound, arranged and disposed in many Ways, but my invention is to be limited only by the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. An article of Wearing apparel, which comprises an elongated endless loop of material, the opposite sides of which loop are secured together only along a portion of the loop spaced from the ends thereof.
2. An article of wearing apparel as in claim 1, in which the securement is by parallel lines of stitching along the opposite sides of the loop.
3. An article of Wearing apparel which comprises an elongated endless loo-p of material, the opposite sides of Which loop are secured together only along a portion of the loop midway of the length thereof and spaced from the ends thereof, deiining two separate and spaced-apart openings through the loop in the same plane.
