E. G. BOROWICK CLOTHES PROTECTOR Filed May 29, ,1947
Inventor Emma Grace Barowick Patented July 26, 1949 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE CLOTHES PROTECTOR Emma Grace Borowick, New York, N. Y. Application May 29, 1947, Serial No. 751,232
1 Claim.
This invention pertains to novel and useful improvements in devices for protecting the clothing of a person against inadvertent application of cosmetic thereon from the face of a person, particularly ladies.
An object of this invention is to provide means for covering and protecting the coiffure after the same has been arranged in the desired manner and prior to application of certain garments.
Another object of the present invention is to provide means extending from said above mentioned means for protecting said garments from inadvertent application of cosmetics thereon.
A further object of this invention is to provide an extremely simple device of the character described which is both inexpensive and satisfactory in operation.
Other objects and features of novelty shall become apparent as the description of the preferred embodiment of the present invention proceeds. The said preferred embodiment is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the preferred form of this invention, showing the same in use, and;
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the invention disclosed in Figure 1, the figure of a person removed.
This invention has been developed to provide a device for protecting a persons coiffure as well as clothing from undesired rearrangement and stain from cosmetics. The preferred use of the present invention is to employ the same in ladies dressing operations. However, this invention might be employed advantageously by actors, thespians or other persons requiring makeup and meticulous arrangement of the hair.
Referring now in detail to the illustrated preferred embodiment of the present invention, like reference characters are used throughout to indicate similar elements. A foraminous web I preferably of semi-spheroidal configuration, is provided for the purpose of covering a person's coiffure. The said web member Ill may be of net material capable of stretching to cover the various and sundry fashions of coifl'ures.
Extending partially around the edge of the said web member In, there is provided a sheet of pliable material l2. This sheet 12 serves the purpose of a shield for the lower portion of a person's face thereby protecting not only the person's cosmetics but also protecting garments nonmally applied to the body after application of cosmetics to ones face. This shield 12 is preferably transparent, making use of a certain type of pliable, transparent plastic.
In operation, all that is necessary for the protection of ones coiifure and cosmetics as well as ones clothing is to place the invention on the head as disclosed in Figure 1. Thence, garments may be applied as customary without the above described danger of injury to the garment and to the said cosmetics.
Due to the extreme mechanical simplicity characterized by the present invention, a further description thereof is deemed unnecessary. It is understood, however, that variations as to the size and shape may be made herein without departing from the spirit of the invention. Accordingly, limitations are desired only in accordance with the scope of the following claim.
It is here noted that various types of hair nets may be employed in the present invention, one of which is disclosed in the drawing for illustrative purposes. Of course, a conventional elastic band l4 may be employed to assist in retaining the net in the desired position.
Having thus described the present invention what is claimed as novel and improved is as follows:
A coiifure and cosmetic protector comprising a semi-spheroidal web having a lower edge provided with an elastic; and being of such size to cover the eyes and, nose of a person, a sheet of pliable material having an edge attached to the first mentioned edge and extending more than half the distance around said web to cover the lower portion of a persons face below the eyes and nose and to cover the sides of a persons face, said sheet of pliable material having curved side edges to allow the hair to fall freely therebehind.
