SHAHPOO MASK June `13, 1939.
Filed Nov. 25, 1958 INYENTOR ATTORNEYS Patented June 13,` 1939 PATENT OFFICE SHAMPOO MASK Winifl'ed Dvis,
Cleveland, Ohio Application November z5, 193s, serial No. 242,378
2 Claims.
My invention relates to shampoo masks and has as one of the principal objectsthereof the pro- Vision of a shampoo mask so constructed and arranged as to preclude water and soap from en- '5 tering theeyes, ears and running down the face of a user or wearer during and after a shampooing operation.
Another object of my invention is to provide a mask of the character described which is simple in construction, durable in use, efiicient in operation and economical in manufacture.
An important object of my invention is to provide a mask of the character described which may be readily adjusted to the head and espe-- cially useful in instances where ladies are desirous of shampooing their own hair.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description, appended claims and annexed drawing. n
Referring to the drawing lwherein like reference characters designate like parts throughout the several views:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of myinvention as applied to the head of a user or wearer.
Figure 2 isy a top plan view thereof, partly in section.
Figure 3 isa detail sectional view taken on the line 3-'3 of Figure 2.
' In the selected embodiment of my invention as illustrated in the drawing, my novel form of mask comprises a head-band 5, preferably c onstructed of rubber, and having the ends 6 thereof reduced and adjustably mounted thereon the parts of a separable fastener 1, for instance a buckle, whereby said head-band may be adjusted about the head of a wearer as clearly illustrated in Figure 1 of the drawing. A resilient strap 8, preferably constructed of rubber, is secured at its ends 9 thereof to the head-band and is arranged higher than the connected ends 8 of said head-band. The ends 9 of the said strap are connected to opposite inner faces of the headband and the intermediate portion of said strap is disposed towards the connected ends 6 of said head-band. Said strap coacts with the frontal portion of said head-band to embrace the head of the wearer and engage therewith in a manner tb preclude the leakage of water or other liquid downwardly between the aforementioned parts and the head.
Secured to the inner face of the frontal portion of the head-band is a strip of pliable material l0, preferably constructed of sponge rubber, and said strip is so arranged in relation to said headband that the lower edge of said strip is vspaced slightly from the lower edge of the head-band. A guard Il, preferably constructed of Cellophane or the like, is secured at its upper edge to the inner side of the head-band, the attached edge of the guard being located between the strip of sponge rubber and the head-band and said guard is adapted to overliethe eyes and face of the 6 wearer to afford protection from water and the like. The sides of the head-band 5, adjacent the ends of the strip 9, are formed with vertically elongated recesses i2 adapted to receive therein the ears of the user or wearer whereby to pre- 10 clude water or the like from entering said ears.
From the foregoing it will be apparent that when my novel form of mask is attached about the head of a wearer the parts thereof coact to preclude a leakage of water or the like over the 15 face and from entering the eyes and ears. A device of this character may be conveniently worn during the period when a towel or other drying element is disposed over the hair to protect the face in the aforementioned manner.
It is obvious that my invention is not confined to the herein described use therefor as it may be utilized for any purpose to which it is adaptable. It is therefore to be understood that the invention is not limited to the specific construction as illustrated and described, as the same is only illustrative lof the principles of operation, which are capable of extended application in advance forms, and that the invention comprehends all construction within the scope of the appended claims. v
What I claim is:
1. A device of the character described, comprising, a head-band having detachable ends and adapted for adjustment about the head of a wearer, a yieldable strap disposed within said band and having ends connected to the latter and coacting therewith to sealingly engage the head, a pliable strip arranged on the inner face of the frontal portion of said band for engagement with the forehead, and a face guard secured to said band subjacent said strip.
2. A device of the character described, comprising, a head-band having detachable ends and adapted for adjustment about the headof a wearer, a yieldable strap disposed within said band and having ends connected to the latter and coacting therewith to sealingly engage the head, a pliable strip arranged on the inner face of the frontal portion of said band for engagement with the forehead, and a face guard secured to said band subjacent said strip, said end of said head-band adjacent said strip fashioned with recesses for'overlying and receiving therein the 55 ears of said wearer.
