UNITED STATES PATENT FFICE.
BESHARA GANIM, OF NEWV YORK, N. Y.
SMOKING-PIPE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 722,405, dated March 10, 1903.
Application filed December 15, 1902. Serial No. 135,282- [No model.)
To all whom, it nuty concern:
Be it known'that I, BESHARA GANIM, a subject of the Sultan of Turkey, residing in the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Pipe for Smoking Tobacco, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to construct the several elements of a narghile, oriental, or Turkish pipe so that the said elements may be united or separated. I
The invention consists in the combination of a bowl, a vase or jar supporting several detachable elements necessary to form the said pipe.
Figure 1 represents the pipe, having its several elements united. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the central elements. Fig. 3 is an enlarged vertical view of the bowl or tobaccoreceptacle, and Fig. 4 is a base view of the base which is supported by the neck of. the
vase.
A, Fig. 1, represents a vase or jar which may be of any desirable size or design. It is usuallyprovided with a long neck A and an open top A by which the base B is sufficiently tight to prevent any smoke from escaping. This base B is provided with a flange B, having threads 13, which screws into the threaded flange D of the post D.
F, Figs. 1 and 2, is a crown screwed to the post D at D and is provided with the flange F and tapering recess F for receiving the bowl P.
H, Figs. 1 and 2, is a tube screwed to the crown F at H and extends downward in the recess I through the passage B of the base B, Fig. 4, and then on into the interior of the jar or vase A.
N, Fig. 1, is a stem having threads N, which correspond to the threads D by which the post D and stem are detachably held together.
O is a flexible tube having a tapering end 0 to connect it with the stem N.
P, Figs. "1 and 3, is the bowl, having a concaved receptacle P for holding the tobacco and passages P P and P leading into the opening P through which the smoke passes into the tube H. The lower end of the bowl is provided with a taper section which fits the taper F of the crown F. By this construction all the several elements or parts of the pipe are made detachable, which are readily removed to be cleaned or duplicated, thus avoiding the disadvantages of the pipes now in use, in which all the several elements are made integral by brazing or soldering, thus preventing duplicating any element or readily cleaning the said pipe.
The operation is as follows: Water is placed in the vase A. Tobacco is then lighted in the bowl. The user then draws the smoke, by aid of the flexible tube 0, down through the tube H, where it is cooled by the water and rises to the outlet-passage B passing through the stem N and tube 0 into the mouth of the user.
I am well aware that ordinary smokingpipes have been made with detachable parts. To this I make no claim.
7 Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
1. In a Turkish pipe having the vase A in combination with the detachable elements consisting of the base B post D crown F bowl P and stem N substantially as set forth.
2. In a Turkish pipe having the vase A, in combination with the detachable elements consisting of the base B, post D, bowl P, stem N and pipe H, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
BESHARA GANIM.
Witnesses:
