Potato of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Tobacco-Pipes; end T do hereby declare the following to he s lull, clear, end exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled tilt "in the crib to which it cippert-sins to make end -use the same.

This invention relcmsto tobacco pipes. The object of the invention resides in the provision of a to hecco pipe which is so constructed and arranged as to completely consume the entire charge of tcheccoplaced therein whereby economy in the consumption of tobacco is efiected.

Still another object of the invention resides in the provlsion of s toloacco pipe which may he repeatedly filled with tobacco while some is lighted and; the necessity of relighting the pipe during the filling obviated.

A still further object of the invention resides in the provision of a tobacco pipe in which the removal of ashes may he efi'ected with facility and which also includes means for preventing the tobacco from spilling end sparks or elshes from being blown from the howl when the pipe is in use.

With the shove and other objects in view the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and comhinstion of parts to he hereinafter more fully described end particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

This reservoir A is of snbstential cup shape and has its mouth of such diameter as to snugly receive. one end of the mouth piece 10 in the usual and well known manner. The reservoir A has an opening 11 formed in the wall thereofcdjsccnt the mouth of said reservoir. Projecting from the Well of said reservoir slightly above the opening 11 is a. bowl securing linger 12, the free end of which is directed longitudinslly of the reservoir toward the bottom of the letter. The reservoir A is provided with a partition 13 which forms a smoke passage 1%, said passage-connecting at its lower end with the interior of said reservoir. The howl of the pipe which is iindicsted at B is shown as comprising a tubular member, the upper end of which is adapted to be closed hythe cap 15 hinged to the bowl, making 1t airtight at the upper end. The lower end of the bowl B is reduced as at 17 and the outer side of this reduced portion is exteriorly threaded as at 18.-

Engaged with the threads 18 is a. tubular member 19 which is provided at its outer end wito an inwardly directed flange 20 supporting the grate 21. Formed integral with this grate on the inner side of the latter are projections 22 for a purpose that will presently appear. The outer end of the tubular member 19 is closed by a cover 20 the side wall of which is provided with {tll openings 21. 'The bowl B is provided with c laterally directed tubular stem. 23 which is inserted through the opening 11 of the smoke reservoir. In applying the bowl to the reservoir the former is positioned out of the plune of the latter and the stem 23 inserted in the opening 11 until the projection 2-2 engages the reserm5 I In the use of'the pipe thetohacco is sup plied through the upper end of the bowl 7 and the cap closed. The tobacco is then lighted at the bottom of the bowl and smoking proceeded with. It will be noted that during the use the smoke will pass through the passage of the stem 23, thence through the passage'let, through the main portion of thereservoiriA in an upward direction and then through the mouth piece 10. During this'pr-olonged movement of the smoke from-the bowl to the mouthof the user same w ll become thoroughly cooled, While all moisture will settle in the bottom of the reservoir A. If it is desired to remove the ashes from the bowl A the member 19 is screwed on the, lower end of the bowl B until the threads of the member 19 are disengaged from the threads 18. The member 19 and the grate 21 can then be freely rotated so that the movement of the projections 22 will loosen and free all ashes in the pipe. To completely clean the bowl of the pipe it is only necessary to rotate the member'19 to the left and thereby effect the disengagement of both'the member 19 and the grate 21.

What I claim is tubular bowl having a hinged cover for closing its upper end, said bowl terminating at itslower end in an'exteriorly reduced portion provided with threads at its outer side, an interiorly. threaded tubular member engaged with the threads of the bowl, the threads of said tubular member being adapted to pass out of engagement with the threads of the bowl when said member is screwed. on the bowl a predetermined distance, a grate supported by said tubular member, projections on the inner side of said grate, a mouth piece, and draft connections between the mouth piece and the bowl.
