The object of myinvention is to secure spurs, of the ordinary form, with straps and buttonsito the feet` of,` equestrians,` so that they may not be too tight on the instep, and still will 'not drop down on the heel, or let the rowelcome in contact with the ground while walking. I.

My invention consists in putting two extra buttons or buckles near'the others in the endsof thefork-on I bow of the spur, and the strap which passes under the hollow of the foot being attached to b`oth" buttons; the I strapwhich. is to hold it on, and is over the instep,'being attached to the rearIhuttons, soas to form the ful-` crnm of alever to keep the bow and rowel in their proper position. I I f To enable others to make' and use my improved spur, I will lescribe it more fully, referring to the `draw.- I ings, Iand to the letters marked thereon. f l 4 I I 4` The bow or frame A may be made of any'suitable material, and formed in any of the well-known patterns, huving arear stem, B, and rowel C, so t-hatrwhen placed upon `the-heel D of the boot,"and secured,`it is in Ithe` f proper position for use. To both ends of the bow or frame A, II place two strap-buttons, a` a, fromone-hollf to y one inch distance apart; the under strap E being wide enough at the ends,ior it may be split so as to part`so that iIt may beattached to both of the buttons a, a on each side of the foot. The strap F, which secures that spur to the b oot G, is attached only to the rear buttons, so that it is constantly lifting on the spurtokeep it i from falling on the heel ofthe boot. i r y I It is well known to horsemen who use the ordinary spurs, that they are constantly falling and working o l the heel, so that they have to be often adjusted'when riding, or they are o f nopractical use; and it is also4 I regarded by military men as one of the greatest'inconveniences, to be obligcdfto strap on their s purs'so 'ght, to keep them from changing their position, that oftentimes it has causedgreat pain, and s'yvellingofth tep, and nothing more annoying than to' have them down on the heel, clanl-:ing on the sidewalk`,Iwhile walking Y. Byl"` my improvements, as above described, it will readily be seen that the straps `may be quteIloose, and yet the spur will be kept in its proper place. I I What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- I Putting two buttons a a on both sides ofthe bow ofI frame A, and attaching the strap to both, and the, securing' strap F to the rear button, so as to form the fulcrum of a lever, substantially as` and for the purposes` I herein set forth.
