held by a simple rubber across the instep, ork
by any light fastening like that marked c c in the drawing. This auxiliary plate is beveled on the edges, so as to render it scarcely visible to persons other than the wearer without a close inspection. The heel part is made separate, and in any suitable way, so as to conform to the' depth-and shape of the boot-heel. The heel part B is shown in drawing cut out of the wood so as to have the side a in addition to the bottom. b is a lug on the hinder part of the heel piece, to prevent any tendency of the foot to slip backward.
