BOOT-HEEL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 380,292, dated March 27, 1888.
Application filed June 22, 1887. Serial No. 242,101. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PETER LINDEN,a resident of the city of Troy, in the county of Rensselaer and State of New York, have invented certain 5 new and useful Improvements in Boots and Shoes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, that will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use K the same, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Similar letters refer to similar parts in the r several figures.
The special object of the invention is to improve the boot-heel described in Patent No. 228,886.
Figure 1 of the drawings is the side elevation of a shoe containing my invention; Fig. 2. a vertical section on the dotted line as a: of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 aplan view of the cushion.
In the drawings, A represents an elastic cushion placed between the heel ends of the 2 in and out soles G C, of the same width as the sole 0, but wider than the sole 0. The upper B has its lower edges fitted close up to the edge of the insole C, while the welts D D have their top edges curved over to rest on the top of the cushion and the lower ones carried under the outsole O, to which they are pegged at b, or otherwise fastened.
d represents the usual lifts of a heel, and are secured together in any suitable manner. Thus it will be seen that the cushion is not held by 55 any fastening, but allowed to play freely up and down.
YVhatI claim as new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, with the in and out soles 4.0 and a cushion extending beyond the insole, of the upper B and welts D D, secured to the upper and insole and resting on the top of said cushion, the lower ends of said welts being fast ened under the outsole, as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 21st day of June, 1887.
,PETER LINDEN.
