UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ADOLPII S. OLSON, OF EL DORADO, IOIVA.
PAINTERS OVERSHOE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 454,375, dated June 16, 1891.
Application filed November 20,1390. Serial No. 372,028. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ADOLPH S. OLSON, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of El Dorado, in the county of Fayette and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Painters Overshoes; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of my invention in side elevation. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of same with buckle and strap removed. Fig. 3 is a detail View, partly broken away, showing construction of sole.
The invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in overshoes, more especially designed for use by painters; and itconsists in the novel construction hereinafter described.
I11 the accompanying drawings, illustrating the invention, the letter A designates the overshoe, which is cut away at the rearor heel portion, as shown, having the strap a and buckle a for fastening the overshoe on. The toe and lower side portions are preferably of leather, as shown at B, the top, instep, and rear portions being of canvas, all in one piece, as is also the leather portion 13. An elastic band C is secured to the tops of the lower side portions and passed over the instep.
D represents the sole, which is preferably of leather. An additional or outer sole, preferably of canvas, although rubber or other yielding material may be used, is provided extending under the instep and ball of the foot. A thin steel or metal plate F is placed between these two soles under the instep, as shown.
By providing the overshoe with the steel plate, having over it the canvas or yielding outer sole extending under the instep and the ball of the foot, the feet of the wearer will not become as tired from standing for a considerable time on the rungs of a ladder as in shoes of the ordinary construction.
These overshoes serve to keep the shoes of the wearer clean, obviating the necessity of putting on an old pair of shoes when going to work. They can be quickly and easily slipped on, and are easy for the feet.
Having described the invention, what 'I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
The overshoe having its lower side portions and toe portion of leather and in one 0011- tinuous piece, and the instep and body portions of canvas, said canvas cut away at the heel and provided with a strap and fastening thercat, an elastic strap secured to the lower side portions and passing over the instep, and a yielding sole having a metallic plate or strip therein, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ADOLPI'I S. OLSON.
