Description

waited $13125 @sind @hijita Letters Patent No. 96,104, dated October 26, 18691 IMPROVEMENT IN COMBINED HORSBSHOE .AND BOOT.
The Schedule .referred to in these Letters Patent and/making part of the sante.
To all whom it mag/ concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY G. HAEDRICH, of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful `Improvements in Combined Boot and Horse shoe; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the v.accompanyimt drawings, and to the letters ot' reference marked thereon, which form a' part of this specitication."
The nature of. my invention consists in the construction and general arrangement of a boot for horses, which combines two purposes, a casting-boot and an overshoe.
It is to he used as aI casting-boot, when a horse looses or casts his shoe, to prevent the further breaking of the hoof, either with or without the calks or projections," as may be desired; and as an over-shoe, b vputtng over the original shoe, fastened to the foot with the calks or projections adjusted, to prevent slipping, kwhen the original shoe is fastened to the foot, and it is not desired to remove the same.
In order to enable othexs skilled in the art to which. my invention appertains, to make and use the same, y I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, in which.-
Figure l is a side elevation, and
Figure 2, a view of the under side,
A represents the bottom or metal part, which is made'in the shape of an ordinary horseshoe, but in` .halves, hinged or joined together at the centre'or toe.
Each of the halves of the bottom A basa semicircular projection or ear, a, 4at the inner front` edge, of about half the thickness of the bottom, Aso that, when placed together and joined by one or more rivets, they form not only a part of the bottom A,`but also the joint by which the halves. are joined to'- gether. By being made movable in this manner, the
bottom can be easily adjusted to any different-size foot. v y
rIhe bottom B is provided with one or more ad'- just-able metal calks or projections B B, screwed into the bottom, which can readily be removed or put in at pleasure.y
The heel of the bottom A is Increased gradually in thickness, as seen in iig. 1.
The bottom or metal part v A is fastened .to the upper part or strapping C, which can be made either of rubber, leather, canvas, or any other suitable material, and can he strapped in different ways. r
The bottom or metal` part A may be made of steel, brass, iron, or any other hard metaheither wrought,`
cast, malleable, or struck out of plate-metals, and'can be made in different shapes, to give thedesred eect. The strapping C, which covcrsfthehoof, and, *asl above mentioned, may be securedor strapped Ain any suitable manner, is, at its lower edge, provided with a rim, 1),'which extends horizontally inward, and is of suitable width to allow the bottom or metal part A to be firmly riveted or otherwise secured to it.
Having thus fully described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent; is- Y The combined horseshoe and hoot, composed of parts A, D, and C, with or without projections B, as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing'as ymy own, I affix` my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
