UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DE VER H. WARNER, OF BRIDGEPORT, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO THE WARNER BROTHERS COMPANY,
CORPORATION OF CONNECTICUT.
OF BRIDGEPORT, CONNECTICUT, A
STOCKlNG-SUPPORTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 713,184, dated November 11, 1902.
Application filed May 21, 1902.
To aZZ whmn it may concern:
Be it known that I, DE VER H. WARNER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Bridgeport, Fairfield county, Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stocking-Supporters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a stocking-sup? porter by means of which the stockings are supported from the lower portion of the corset or other garment. Heretofore in devices of this character which have been attached directly to the corset by safety-pins, clasps, or the like the tendency has been to tear the fabric of the corset and to pull it out of place.- By reason of this tearing and displacement, which results in lasting injury to the corset, the pin or clasp is loosened and fails to hold. The consequence has been that such attaching devices, simple in themselves, have been discarded for more elaborate and complicated structures, which have assured greater safety and confidence.
The object of the present invention is to provide a means which while not dispensing with safety-pins or clasps as a means of attachment obviates the objectionable features attendant upon their use.
My invention will be understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a front view of a supporter embodying my invention, and Fig. 2 a view of the same attached to a corset.
Similar letters of reference indicate similar parts in the several views.
Referring to the drawings, A and A designate the suspension elastics or tapes of the supporter. The tapes may be made of any suitable material and are adjustable in length by means of the slides a and a, respectively. To the lower'ends of the tapes are attached the loops a a and the webbing a a To the last named the buttons or and a are attached. The form of the supporter illustrated and so Serial No. 108,295. (No model.)
far described is well known and is no'part of my present invention; Attached to the upper end of said tapes or to a suspension-ring, as B, through which the tapes may also be passed, andextending upwardly therefrom is a tab C, made, preferably, of a reticulated or loosely-woven fabric. This tab may have a single extension, as'shown in Fig. 2, or it may be doubled to provide two extensions 0 and c, as shown in Fig. 1. In the latter form the lower edge of the corset falls between the two extensionsthatis, the extension 0 rests upon the front, and extension 0 upon the under, side of the corset. The tab may have its edge bound with tape to prevent fraying. When attached to a corset or other garment by the pin D, the prong d passes readily through the reticulated or loosely-woven fabric composing the tab without injuring the same, and the tendency to tearingof the corset is removed or lessened, inasmuch as the strain is distributed from the'closely-woven garment fabric to the loosely-woven tab material. My in= vention; thus provides a supporter easy of application and obviating the disadvantages attendant upon pinning the supporter directly to the corset or other garment.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secureby' Letters Patent, is
1. A stocking-supporter having at its upper end a two-part suspension-tab adapted to embrace the lower edge of the corset or other garment of the wearer.
2. A stocking-supporter having at its upper end atwo-part suspension-tab of looselywoven or reticulated material adapted to embrace the lower edge of the corset or other garment of the wearer.
In witness whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
DE VER H. WARNER.
