UNiTnn STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GLOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 704,579, dated July 15, 1902.
Application'filed. October 10, 1901. Serial No. 78,224. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, MINNIE ELIZABETH ROLLASON, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Gloves, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to gloves, and more particularly to long gloves reaching above the elbow and to means for securing the same upon the arm.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both views.
Figure 1 is an elevation showing the glove in use, and Fig. 2 is a plan view of the glove indicated as lying upon its back.
The glove consists of the hand, wrist, forearm, and upper-arm portions, (numbered 1 2- 3 l.) It is secured upon the arm by means of flexible members 5. The wrist portion is provided with an opening 6 and with buttons 7 and buttonholes 8 adjacent thereto, whereby the same may be secured. The flexible members 5 are stitched permanently to the glove at 9. Groups of apertures 10 11, suitably Worked with thread to prevent undue wear, are provided at intervals, both upon the front and back of the glove, and through these apertures the flexible members 5 are threaded by means of the tags 12, as shown. The points where the flexible members cross are inside the glove and are hidden. A band 13 is placed around the Wrist portion for the purpose of strengthening the same and as a matter of ornamentation. The ends of this band, together with the ends of the flexible members 5, are secured adjacent to the opening 6.
My invention is used as follows: The glove is placed upon the hand and arm in the usual manner and buttoned, so as to close the opening 6. The flexible members 5 are then wound spirally around the glove in opposite directions and threaded through the apertures 1O 11, so as to cross each other at a plurality of points, as shown in Fig. 2. The
loose ends 14 of the flexible members are then tied in any desired manner.
It will, be seen, therefore, that I have produced a strong and neat glove, suitable either for ordinary wear or for theatrical performances and admittingof any extent of modification.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- 1 1. As an article of manufacture, a glove, comprising hand, wrist, forearm and upperarm portions, and provided with groups of apertures, and flexible members secured upon the wrist portion and wound spirally around the glove in opposite directions so as to cross each other and threaded through said apertures at the points where said flexible 'members thus cross.
2. Asan article of manufacture, a glove, comprising hand, wrist, forearm and upperarm portions, the wrist portion being provided with an opening, and with buttonholes and buttons for closing the same, the forearm and upper-arm portions being provided with groups of apertures, flexible members permanently secured to each side of said opening and wound spirally around the glove in 0pposite directions, so as to cross each other at intervals, and threaded through said apertures at the points where the ribbons thus cross.
3. As an article of manufacture, a glove provided with an opening and with buttonholes and buttons for closing the same, and also provided with distinct groups of apertures said groups being spaced asunder at definite intervals, and a pair of flexible members permanently secured adjacent to said opening and provided with tags for threading said ribbons through said apertures, .the arrangement being such that 1 said ribbons may be disposed spirally around the glove.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name tothis specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
' MINNIE ELIZABETH ROLLASON.
