Description

A. a. JACKSUN. BICYCLE LUGGAGE CARRIER.
(Application filed Ana- 22, 1901.)
No. 69l,864. Patented Ian. 28, I902.
(No Model.)
UNITED TATES PATENT I OFFICE.
ALFRED GEORGE JACKSON, OF BRISBANE, QUEENSLAND.
BICYCLE LUGGAGE-CARRlER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 691 ,864, dated January 28, 1902.
' Application filed April 22, 1 01. Serial Notes i1. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALFRED GEORGE JACK- SON, a subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, and a resident of George street, Brisbane, in the State of Queensland, Australia, have invented a certain new and useful Bicycle Luggage-Carrier, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improved clip for attaching to bicycles for carrying rifles, sporting-guns, or other articles; and it consists in a spring-band open at one end. The open end is provided with a link and eccentric chock, and on either end is a clip for securing same to bicycle.
To fully describe the invention I will now refer to the drawings, in which Figurel is aperspective view of the attachment closed. Fig. 2 is a broken side view of same open. Fig. 3 is a broken side view of same closed. Fig. 4 is a detail of heel-clip.
A is a metal band with a spring tendency, around the open end of which fits a link B, of rectangular form, the band being slotted out on both sides to receive same. Onto this link is pivoted an eccentric chock O, having a pin 0 for manipulating same. Onto the open end of the band A is pivoted a clip D, thus providing for reversing the band and allowing the chock to be operated from either side of the bicycle.
E is a clip riveted or otherwise fixed to the heel of the metal band, or it may form an integral part of same by strips being stamped outof each side of the metal band, turned over, and shaped to form a clip. (See Fig. 4.) Both clips are provided with thumb-screws for tightening same onto the frame of the bi cycle.
In using my invention I attach it to the bicycle by fixing the clip D to the seat-pillar bar and the clip E to the bottom bar of the frame of the machine. The butt-end of the rifle is inserted in the metal band A. On lifting the pin 0 the eccentric chock, rotating on the link B, presses the jaws of the metal band A together, which immediately grip the butt of the rifle. The muzzle end may either rest upon the handle-bars or be supported by a suitable clip secured to the head of the machine. The rifle can be instantly released by reversing the eccentric chock.
The construction of the metal band A may be modified by forming the same of two separate parts hinged together at the heel.
The invention is herein referred to as applied to rifles; but it will be obvious that it can be used for avariety of articles by modifying the shape of the metal band.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A device of this character comprising an attaching-clamp, a spring-band having one end pivotally connectedto the clamp and the other end opposite the connection but free, a link surrounding the free and pivoted ends of the band, and means carried by the link for forcing the free end into close proximity to the pivoted end substantially as described.
2. A device of this character consisting of an attaching-clamp, a spring-band havingone end plvotally connected to said clamp, and the other end opposite the connection but free, a link loosely surrounding the free and pivoted ends of the band, and an eccentric chock carried by the link to force the free end of the band toward the pivoted end.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
ALFRED GEORGE J AOKSON.
