ATTORNEY NTTED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ISAAC W. LEVI, OF SYRAOUSE, `NEW YORK.
BUCKLE.
SPECIFICATION forming' part of Letters liatent No. 658,185, dated September 18, 1900. Application led July 5, 1900. Serial No. 22,470. (No model-J To all whom, it may concern.-
Beit known that I, ISAAC W. LEVI, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Buckles, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompany-V ing drawings, is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to buckles attached to belts worn around the waists of persons.
The purpose of the invention is to prevent the belt from slipping and becoming displaced upon the garment to which the belt is applied; and to that end theinvention consists in the combination, with a belt-buckle, of a pin connected thereto and having the central portion of its lengt-h deected inward from the plane of the buckle to pass through the underlying portion of the garment, as hereinafter more fully described.
The invention is susceptible of modifications of the details of its construction, which depends chiefly on the condition of the portion of the garment upon which the buckle rests when in use.
The annexed drawings show myinvention appliedV to a buckle on a belt worn around the waist of a person.
In said drawings, Figure l is a plan View of a belt-buckle of the class termed tonguebuckle to which my invention is applied. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section on line X X in Fig. l, and Fig. 3 is a detached perspective View of said buckle. v
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts. v
a represents the body or frame of a buckle, which is formed with the usual cross-bar b, to which is pivoted the tongue c. The buckle is attached atk the cross-barb to one end of p the belt d, the opposite end of which is vperforated and passed under the front portion of the buckle and thence over the rear por-4 tion thereof and receives the tongue c through one of the perforations t' of the belt in the usual and well-known manner.
In wearing the belt CZ around the' waist of a person it is found that the belt is liable'to slip from its required position on the immediately-underlying portion of the garment, which is usually the waistband of the garment. This displacement of the belt is due to the want of a positive hold of the belt on the waistband. It isthis displacement which is sought to be prevented `by my present invention, which, as hereinbefore stated, consists of a, pin f, connected to the buckle and having the central portion f of its length deiiected inward from the plane of the buckle to pass through the waistband c and obtain a secure hold thereon. The pin f preferably extends from the pivoted end of the tongue c toward the opposite end thereof and is disposed directly un'der the tongue and of sufficient length to enter with its free end into the same perforation t' of the belt d through which the end of the tongue c passes. The point or free end of the pin is thus guarded to prevent its injuring the wearer of the belt. I preferably form the pinfintegral with the pivoted end of the tongue and curve, the pin,
as shown at f, to allow it to be more easily passed through the waistband e, as illustrated in;Fig. 2 of the drawings. I Y 1 AWhat I claim as my invention is l. The combination, with a belt-buckle, of
a pin connected thereto and having the cen# tral portion of its length deflected inward from the plane of the buckle to pass through the underlying portion of the garment and confine the belt thereon as set forth.
2. The combination with a tongue-buckle,
of a pin .connected thereto and extending lengthwise thereof, and disposed to engage the immediately-underlying portion of the.
garment as and for the purpose set forth.
y3. The combination, with a tongue-buckle,
0f a pin extending from the pivoted end of the tongue toward the opposite end of said tongue and disposed to engage the immediately-underlying portion ofthe garment and thereby confine the buckle in its position on the garment; j
4. y The combination, with a belt and tonguebuckle connected thereto, of a pinl formed integral with the pivoted end of the tongue and extending lengthwise of ther tongue and curved to pass through the underlying por# tion of the garment and entering'at its free end the perforation of the belt, entered by the tongue of the buckle as set forth.
