UNITED vSTATES PATENT ,OEETGE `HERBERT C. WARD, OF WILLMAR, MINNESOTA.
IMPROVEMENT IN TUG-BUCKLES.
Specification forming part of Letters-Patent No. l 77,596, dated May 16, 18476; application lcd i March 13, 1876.
`To all lwhom fit/may' concern:
Be it known that I, HERBERT C. WARD, ot'
Willmar, in the county of Kandiyohi and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and useful Figure l is a face view of my improved buckle, shown as applied to a hame-tug andl tug. AFig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same, taken through the line x Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondn g parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved tug-buckle, which will enable the tug tobe conveniently adjusted, and will take the most of the draft'strain olf the tongue, so that there Will be no danger of the tongue-.holes tearing out. l
The invention consists in an improved buckle formed or" the frame, provided with the straight tongue, the loops', and the notches, and. the bail, provided with the'lugs 'and the crossbar, to adapt it foruse in connecting a tug and hametug, or other straps, as hereinafter fully described.
A represents the heme-tug. B represents the tug. C represents'the buckle-frame, and Upon the under side of the front cross-bar c1 of the frame Gis formed a straight tongue, c2, whichpasses through a hole in the tug B. Upon the upper side of the bar cS of the frame C is formed a loop, c4, to receive theA saddle-strap. Upon the lower sidebar c5 is formed a loop, c6, to receive the belly-band strap, and upon the rear-cross-bar 0" is formed a loop, 08, to receive the bree'ching. Upon the cl2 of which the herne-tug A is attached.
inner edges ot' theside bars c3 c5 of the frame C are formed long notches c9to receive the arms all of the bail D, to the forward cross-bar Upon the ends of the arms d1 are formed out- Wardly-projectin g lugs d3, to rest and slide upon the side bars c3 c5 ot' the frame C. Upon the' middle part of the arms d1 of the bail D is formed a cross-bar, d4, the face ot' which is rounded oft', and which rests against the under side of the tug B. n
`With this construction when the draft-strain comes upon the buckle the bail D- slips for- Ward, and the tug is clamped between the cross-bar d4 of the bail D and the front crossbar cl ofthe frame C, thus relieving the tongue fronrthe -most of the draft-strain, the principal- .bars c3 c5, and the bail D, provided with arms d 1,'lugged bar d2 d3, and cross-bnr d, all constructed and arranged substantiallT as and for the purpose specified.
