To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JULIUS Bnownn, a subject of the Czar of Russia, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of N ew York, have invented a new and Improved Combination Pulley-Buckle and Sash-Buckle, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved buckle which is simple and durable in construction and arranged to permit the user to readily change it from a pulicy-buckle to a sash-buckle, or vice versa.

The invention consists of novel features and parts and combinations of the same, as will be fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claims.

A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

Figure 1 is a face View of the improvement, showing the buckle members separated and arranged for use as a pulley buckle. Fig. 2 is a rear face View of the same. Fig. 3 is a like view of the improvement arranged as a sash-buckle, and Fig. 4 is a sectional plan view of the same on the line 4 i in Fig. 3 and with the members in a locked position.

The buckle consists, essentially,of two body members A A, provided at their rear faces with the usual cross-bars B B, respectively, for guiding the sash or for securing the ends of the belt according to the use to be made of the buckle. The body members A A are provided at their adjacent ends with guides O O, ordinarily called pulleys, and pivoted at their ends in bearings D, secured on the inner rear faces of the body members A A, the said guides being so pivoted that they can be swung either outward into the position shown in Figs. 1 and 2, when it is desired to use the buckle as a pulley-buckle, or the said guides may be swung rearward back upon the rear face of the body members A A, as illustrated in Figs. 3 and 4, when the device is to be used as a sash-buckle.

On the rear face of the body member A and approximately midway between the bearings Dis secured a hook E, adapted to be engaged by an eye F, mounted to slide with its side bars in bearings G, formed or secured on the rear face of the other body member A. The

outward movement of the eye F is limited by suitable stops F on the ends of the side members of the eye, so that the said eye is projected the desired distance beyond the inner edge of the body member A to readily hook upon the hookE and bring the two inner edges of the body members A A close together, as is plainly indicated in Fig. 4. When the eye F is extended, as described, then the guides O O are folded back on the body members A A to permit of using the buckle as an ordinary sash or belt buckle. WVhen', however, it is desired to use the buckle as a pulley-buckle, as previously described, then the operator slides the eye F inward to the position shown in Fig. 2, so that the eye is completely out of the way of the guides O 0 when the buckle is used as a pulley-buckle. The construction is such that when the eyeF is pushed into an innermost position, as shown in Fig. 2, at the,

time the guide 0 is still in a folded position on the back or rear face of the body member A, then the said eye lies within said guide 0, but they do not interfere with each other. In a like manner the construction of the hookE and the guide 0 is such that the guide 0 can be readily swung into a rearward or folded position or into an outer extended position without coming in contact with the said hook E.

The device is very simple and durable in construction and, as above explained, allows the user to readily change the buckle from a pulley-buckle to a sash-buckle, or vice versa.

Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. As a new article of manufacture, a buckle having its body members provided with guides or pulleys, and with means for fastening the inner ends of the members close together, whereby the buckle can be converted from a pulley-buckle to a sash-buckle or vice versa.

2. As a new article of manufacture a buckle comprising two body members provided with means for forming with the members a pulley-buckle the said members being also provided with means for forming with the members a sash buckle, substantially as shown and described.

3. As a new article of manufacture a buckle comprising two body members provided with means for forming with the members a pulley-buckle, and also provided with means for forming with the members a sash-buckle, the means being movable to allow of adjusting the same upon the back of the members into an inactive position, or to project the same into an active position, as set forth.

4. As a new article of manufacture a buckle, comprising two body members having movable guides, a movable eye, and a fixed hook, as set forth whereby the buckle can be converted from a sash-buckle to a pulleybuekle and vice versa.

5. As a new article of manufacture, abuckle comprising two body members provided with cross-bars for connection with a belt or sash, the said members being also provided with hinged guides, one of said members having a hook and the other member having an eye slidable thereon and adapted to engage said hook, the said hook and eye lying within the said guides in eitheran extended or fold ed position, as set forth.

6. As a new article of manufacture a convertible sash and pulley buckle, comprising separable body members provided with guides to receive the connecting-strap when the buckle is used as a pulley-buckle, and with clasp devices to connect the body members when the buckle is used with a sash, said clasp de vices and guide devices being movable, Whereby the guide devices may be adjusted out of the Way of the clasp devices and vice versa.
