MAX RUBIN, on NEW YORK, N. Y.
CLASP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent no. 646,561, dated April 3, 1900.
Application filed November 15, 1899. Serial No. 73 7,034. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern;
Be it known that I, MAX RUBIN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain newand useful Improvements in Clasps, of which-the following is a specification. r
The object of my invention is toprovide a new and improved clasp for holding stockings and other garments firmly and securely, which clasp is simple in construction, strong and durable, and easily manipulated and which does not out or'otherwise injurethe articles on which it is applied.
In the accompanying drawings,-forming a part of this specification, and in which like Y letters of reference indicate like parts in all the views, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved clasp open; Fig. 2 is a face view of the same closed. Fig. 3 is a side view closed. 1
The wire frame A is provided at one end with a cross-piece B, around which a webbing or elastic band C is passed and secured in any suitable manner, and at its opposite rounded end D the frame A is contracted to form two inclined shoulders or offsets E and the straight portions F. between said shoulders and the rounded end D, said shoulders thus being adapted to yield slightly outward. A plate G has'its side edges bent over the straight shanks H of the frame A to form guide-sleeves J, by whichv the plate G is guided to slide lengthwise onthe said frame. T0 the under side of the plate G a wire locking-frame K is hinged,preferably by bending a lip I on the rear edge of said plate over the cross-piece L of said locking-frame. \The free end of the locking-frame K- is shaped and bent to form a loop M out of the plane of the frame K and so that the free end of the locking-frame can be pushed into the free end of the rame A, the straight portions F of the frame A passing in between the free end part of the locking-frame K and its loop M.
The locking-frame K is swung up. The fabric 0 to be clamped is placed upon the frame A, and then the locking-frame K is swung down upon the said fabric, the loop M pressing part of the fabric down between the shanks H, and then the plate G with the locking-frame K are pushed toward the free end ofv the frame A, whereby part of the fabric is clamped and held between the portions F and the locking-frame-K and loop M. To release the fabric, the plate G and lockingvframe K are pushed back and the latter swung away from the frame A.
I Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isp 1. In a clasp, the combination with a wire frame having side shoulders near one end, of a plate mounted to slide on said frame, and a locking-frame hinged on said plate, which the plane of the locking-frame, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. In a clasp the combination with a wire frame having inclined side shoulders near one end and the width of said frame reduced between said shoulders and the free end of'the frame, of a sliding plate on said frame and a locking-frame hinged to the sliding plate and bent at its free end to form a loop out of the plane of the wire frame so as to adapt the sides of the contracted part of the wire frame to pass in between the free end of the locking-frame and its loop, substantially as herein shown and described.
Signed at New York, in the county of New ,York and State of New York, this 11th day of November, A. D. 1899.
