DU PLEX RAZOR-STROP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 645,954, dated March 2'?, 1900.

To all whom t may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN H. HEMMERDIN- GER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, (Brooklym) county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Duplex Razor-Strops, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a duplex razorstrop which is so constructed that both faces of either strop may be readily exposed for use. To this eect I secure the strops to a pair of swinging eyes that permit the strops to be reversed and with means for suspending said strops in either of their positions.

The improved duplex razor-strop consists, essentially, of a pair of stropsproper, A B, made, preferably, of leather and canvas and connected at one end to a pair of hinged eyes or bails, which may be folded in opposite directions, so as to expose opposite faces of the strops.

Within this tube c are received, furthermore, between the bails a. b, a pair of hinged bails or elongated eyes d c, that carry the means by which the strop is adapted to be suspended in either one of its positions. These means consist more particularly of the eyes f g, which may be either permanently attached to the bails d e or may be made removable therefrom. In the latter case but one eye is employed, which is attached to that particular bail from which the strop is to be suspended. When -the strop is reversed, the eye is first detached and secured to the other bail, as will be readily understood.
In use the strop is suspended from, say, the eye f, and the bails a, h are swung away from it and in close contact with-the intermediate baile, so that the strops A B are placed in close proximity, Mwith one of their sides exposed. Fig. l of the drawings shows the distance between the strops on an exaggerated scale for the sake of greater clearness. If it is 4desired to use the opposite sides of the strops A B, they are swung around, together with their bails a b, so that the latter lie close' against the bail d,while the strop is suspended from the eye g. (Shown in dotted lines, Fig. l.) Thus it will be seen that both sides of the strops may be readily exposed and that one face of each strop is as accessible as the other. By my invention I am enabled, therefore, to select either side of the strop, and thus if one side is worn or cut the other may be chosen. So, also, if the two faces of the strops are dife ferently prepared either one may be utilized, so that I obtain, in effect, the use of four strops in lieu of two.
What I claim is 1. The combination in a duplex razor-strop, of a pair of strops, with a pair of pivoted bails, to which the strops are respectively secured, and a second pair of bails for suspending the strops in opposite positions, substantially as specified.
2. The combination, in a duplex razorstrop, of a tube, with a pair of pivoted suspendingbails, received thereby, a second pair of pivoted bails received by the tube between the suspending-bails, and a pair of strops secured to said second pair of bails, substantially as specified.
