No. 698,853. Patented Apr. 29, I902.
H. C. PIGUERON.
EYEGLASS POLISHER.
(Application filed Dec. 19, 1900.
(No Model.)
WITNESSES UNITED STATES PATENT @EEICE.
HENRY C. PIGUERON, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
EYEGLASS-POLISHER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 698,853, dated April 29, 1902.
Application filed December 19,1900. Serial No. 10,367. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY O. PIGUERON, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York andState of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Eyeglass-Polishers, of which the following is a full and complete specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to eyeglass-polishin g devices; and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class which consists of a case composed of two separate similar and preferably circular parts hinged together and provided at their opposite free edges with catch devices by which the separate sides of the case are held in a closed position, said case being also provided with a circular polisher in each side thereof, said polishers being connected and being secured centrally of their connection to the case and being composed of material by which the eyeglasses may be cleaned; and with these and other objects in view the invention consists of a device of the class specified constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompa nying drawings form a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by the same reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is an inside viewrof my improved eyeglass-polishing device, the separate sides thereof being in an open position; Fig. 2, a similar view of the polishers which I employ; Fig. 3, a longitudinal section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 4: an edge view showing the sides of the case open and reversed and the polishers in a position for use to clean-the eyeglasses.
In the practice of my invention .1 provide a device of the class specified consisting of a case which comprises two separate similar and preferably circular or disk-shaped side portions 5, which'are hinged together at 6, and the separate side portions 5 are preferably each composed of a central body portion 7, of flexible but stiff leather or other suitable material and provided each with a metal rim 8.
The hinge at 6 maybe made in any desired manner and mayconsist simply of a flexible strip of leather and may be formed integrally with the body portions 7 of the separate sides of the case, and the said separate sides of the case are provided at their opposite free edges with ordinary friction-catches 9, by means of which the said case or the separate sides thereof are held in a closed position.
I also employ two separate circular polishers 10, integrally connected at 11 and preferably composed of chamois-skin or other suitable material, and said polishers are also secured at the point of their connection with .the hinge portion, by which the separate sides of the case are connected, as shown at 12, this connection being preferably made by a wire loop or link 13. The construction of the polishers 10 with the central or hinge portion of the side members 5 of the case may, how ever, be made in any desired manner, and my invention is not limited to the material of the case or the material of said polishers, and changes in and modifications of the construction described may be made without departing from thespirit of my invention or and in this operation the separate parts of the case may also be swung into the position shown in Fig. 4, or the polishers 10 may be used in any desired manner for the purpose of cleaning the glasses.-
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isv 1. An eyeglass-polishing device, consisting of a case composed of two flexible separate circular side members integrally united by a narrow central joining portion to form a hinge, said members being provided with a rim, and at the edge thereof opposite the hinge with fastening devices, and flexible polishers similar in form to thejside members of the case and of less dimensions than the said side members and adapted to fit in said case, said polishers being secured at the narrow central portion to the hinged portion of the side members of the case, substantially as shown and described.
2. An eyeglass-polishing device consisting of a casing composed of two separate similar circular members of flexible material united at one edge to form a hinge and each of which is provided with a rim and flexible polishers similar in form to the side members of the casing and of less dimensions and adapted to fit in said casing, said polishers being con nected at one side and being also secured at the point of their connection to the hinged portion of the case, said hinged members of the case being provided at their free edges with catches, substantially as shown and described. v
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of the subscribing witnesses, this 13th day of December, 1900.
