Description

(.No Model.)
E. J. HAUCK',
Byeglass Gase.
N9. 232,493. Paten'ted Sept. 21,1880.
Mm@ WW gm? UNITED STATES PATENT EETCE.
EDWARD J. HAUCK, OF BROOKLYN7 E. D., NEW YORK.
EYEGLASS-CASE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 232,493, dated September 21, 1880.
Y Application filed March 31, 1880. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, EDWARD J. HAUCK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, E. D., in the county ot' Kings and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Eyeglass-Gases, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to obtain a case for holding a pair of eyeglasses with an attached suspen sion-string, in which the string is permitted to project from the box when it ,is closed, so that the string may be attached to the person, and the case, with Ithe eyeglasses inclosed therein, placed in the pocket.
It consists in a case the body of which is provided with a notch in its top edge adapted to receive the suspension-string of a pair of eyeglasses, the lid of the case being hinged to such body, so that when the lid is closed on the body the notch is converted into a hole or opening with closed sides.
This invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure lis a plan view of the case with the lid open. Fig. 2 is an end view thereof.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts. The letter A indicates the body of the case, and B the lid hinged to such body, as at c, both parts being made of sheet metal or other suitable material. In the edge of the body A is a notch, d, of suitable size and shape to receive the string commonly attached to eyeglasses for the purpose of suspending the same from the person of the wearer.
In applying the case to use the eyeglasses are placed in the body A, and the suspensionstring is laid in the notch d, as shown in Fig. 1. The lid B is then closed on the body, whereby the notch dis closed or becomes a hole or opening with closed sides, through which the string is permitted to project from the case inclosing the eyeglasses. The notch d thus gives to the case a very desirable feature without impairing its protective qualities.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As a new manufacture, a case for a pair of eyeglasses, the same consisting of a body and a hinged cover, the side of the case being provided with an opening for the passage of a cord connected with the frame of the glasses, substantially as herein shown, for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
EDWARD J. HAUCK.
