Description

(No Model.)
H. BEUTELSPAGHER. HAND RUBBER.
No. 448,197. Patented Mar. 17, 1891.
ATTORNEY PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY BEUTELSPACHER, OF BRIDGEPORT, CONNECTICUT.
HAN D-RUBBER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 448,197, dated March 17, 1891. Application filed August 21, 1890. Serial No. 362,609. (No model.)
to provide a soap-holder which shall be capable of ready attachment to a chain and shall also be economical in cost.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figures 1 and 2 are front and rear elevations, respectively, of my improvement; Fig. 3, an interior view, the sections being open; Fig. 4,
a longitudinal section,and Fig. 5 a cross-section.
Similar letters denote like parts in the several figures of the drawings.
Hand-rubbers consisting of two pouches hinged together and having a spring pressu replate to preserve the proper position of the soap cake are not new; but myinvention especially aims to so construct the pouches that they may be,when closed, readily attached to a chain for convenience and to afford security as against theft.
A B are pouches, preferably made from tin.
- Around the sides and ends of the pouch B extends a wire C, which is secured thereto in any suitable manner. Formed with the pouch A is a leaf D, which is curled around the wire C, so as to afford a hinge connection between the pouches. At the opposite side of the pouch A is a spring-catch E, which, when the pouches are closed, engages with the wire C at the front of the pouch B and locks the pouches together.
The pouch B is provided with a face F, made from wire-gauze, and the cake of soap is placed within this pouch, as shown. The pouch A has a perforated face G and contains a coilspring H, one end whereof is soldered to the inside of said face, the other end being soldered to a pressure-plate I.
At one end of the pouch B an eye J is formed in the wire C for the ready attachment of a chain K, whereby my improvement may be suspended from any convenient point, so as to be ready for use. A cake of soap is placed in the pouch B and the pouches are closed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Let ters Patent, is-
In a hand-rubber, the combination of the pouch B, the wire around said pouch and formed at one end of the latter into an eye for attachment to a chain, and the pouch A, having at the front and rear edges a springcatch and hinge-leaf respectively adapted to engage with said wire, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
