SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Eatent No. 678,676, dated July 16, 1901. Application filed January 18, 1901. Serial No. 43,789. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be itknown that I, WILLIAM GRAHAM Mo- SIER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Greenville, in the county of Washington and State of Mississippi, have invented a new and Improved Razor-Strop, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to certain devices for holding razor-strops by means of which a plurality of strops may be held, so that when one strop is in use the others will not interfere with the operation of stropping the razor and so that the strops may be turned readily from side to side, so that the razor may be applied to either face, as desired. I
This specification isa specific description of one form of the invention, while the claims are definitions of the actual scope thereof.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indi- 'cate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the invention in the position of rest. Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional View showing one strop in use and illustrating the position in which the other strop would hang if not grasped by the operator, and Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional plan view of the invention.

This permits the various strops to be interchanged at will. Each bail b is provided with a swivel c,which swivels are engaged, respectively, in approximately U-shaped yokes (Z. The swivels c are engaged with the yoke so that the swivels may turn freely therein, and this permits the strops to be turned into any position desired in the manner indicated by full and dotted lines in the lower part of Fig. 2. The yokes d are fitted one within the other and are pivotally mounted on trunnions 6, formed on a box e,which lies between the arms of the inner yoke. Each yoke is cut away at its free portion, as indicated at cl, thus permitting the yokes to move completely the one within the other, so that when the device is at rest the two strops a may lie closely together. This arrangement also enables the two strops to be held together during the use of the device. With barbers it is frequently the custom to hold two or more strops together when sharpening a razor, so as to give additional stiffness to the sharpening-surface. This is therefore possible with my invention.
In Fig. 2 I have shown only one strop held in position for operation; butit is clear that both strops may be grasped and held side by side during the sharpening. The box e carries a rod f,which is loosely fittedtherein, so as to turn freely, and this rod f is adapted to be connected with the wall or other support through the medium, for example, of a screweye g. From this construction it follows that not only may the strops be turned from side to side, but the whole device may be turned freely around the rod f. The structure of the box e not only allows this movement, but it further allows the independent swinging movementof the box 8.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination with a razor-strop of a bail engaged therewith, a swivel attached to the bail, a pivotally-mounted yoke with which the swivel is engaged, and means for suspending the yoke.
2. The combination of two yokes capable of independent pivotal movement toward and from each other, and devices attached to the yokes for respectively engaging the razorstrops.
3. The combination of two yokes capable of pivotal movement independently toward and from each other, means for supporting each yoke to turn bodily around a longitudinal axis, and devices engaged with the yokes and comprising each a swivel, said devices being adapted for engagement with a razor-strop.
4. The combination of devices each adapted to engage a razor-strop, and comprising a swivel, a yoke with which each swivel is con nected, a box having trunnions on which the yokes are pivotally mounted, and a rod fitted loosely in the box.
