UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN C. HUXHOLD, OF OMAHA, NEBRASKA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO JOHN H. O. HUXHOLD, OF SAME PLACE.
COMBINATION BROOM AND LANTERN HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 514,122, dated. February 6, 1894.
Application filed April 10, 1893. Serial No. 46 9,854. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN C. HUXHOLD, of Omaha, in the county of Douglas and State of Nebraska, have invented certain useful Improvements in a Combination Broom and Lantern Holder; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
This invention has relation to a new and novel combination broom and lantern holder,
' support to the firemans lantern, and a depending gravity actuated broom holder, as shown.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 shows a side elevation of a broken section of a cab with my device as attached; Fig. 2, a view showing the broom and lantern attached. Fig. 3 is an enlarged view of the lantern bracket. Fig. 4 is a side elevation partly in section of the broom holder detached from its support; Fig. 5 a central sectional view of the supporting disk of the broom holder, while Fig. 6 is a plan view of the broom holding,
portion of the device.
A represents the bracket, which is provided with the transverse lantern pin B at one end, and at the other, with the supporting disk 0 having the screw holes 0, c, and the two T shaped openings D, D, adapted to contain the end of the broom holder E. These openings are in form of a truncated cone, as shown in Fig. 4, so that the cylindrical end of the holder may swivel therein, and so be movably secured. The bracket may be cast in any suitable metal.
The broom holder E comprises the scoop shaped holder e proper, within which the broom handle is securely but removably held, the angular stem e and the terminal transverse cylindrical stub bar o The bracket A may be reversed so as to be attached upon either side of the cab. The broom holder E is inserted into one of the seatings D, D, before the bracket is secured. Now, when it is desired to secure the lantern it is simply hung upon the pin B, by means of its guard wires, while the broom is secured, by passing the handle through the holder e, any suitable distance, when the broom may be released. This would carry the holder downward, so that the handle would in seeking its perpendicular, be impinged and securely held within the'holder. No amount of shaking would release the broom.
The device is noticeable because of its extreme simplicity.
Having thus described my said invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent, is
As a new article of manufacture, the combination lantern, bracket and broom holder, comprising the bracket A, having the pin B and disk O, the latter provided with the opening D, in combination with the holder E working within the opening D, and provided with the stub arm 6 and broom loop 6, all substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN C. I-IUXHOLD.
