PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM COOPER, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
SNAP-HOOK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent NO. 731,023, dated June 16, 1903. Application filed October 31, 1902. Seria.l No. 129.602. (No model.)
provements in Snap-Hooks; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the let-. ters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in spring snap-hooks and it consists in the provision of a snap-hook having a conical-shaped socket portion which is rigidly secured to the single piece of wire out of which the hook is formed and adapted to receive the ends of the wire, one end being soldered or otherwise fastened to the socket portion and the other end adapted to be sprung into a recessed portion of said socket member.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the let ters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this application, and in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved snap-hook, and Fig. 2 is a sectional view on line 2 2 of Fig. 1.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designatesa single piece of wire having one end bent to form a loop 13, and (J designates a tapering socket portion a cross sectional view of .which is illustrated in Fig. 2 of the drawings. Said socket member is soldered or otherwise securely fastened to the wire A, and the end B of the portion of the wire forming the end of aloop is formed to receive a hook or any other article, and a swivel K may be connected to the loop formed by one end being held in said socket member.
From the foregoing it will be observed that by the formation of a spring-hook made of a single piece of wire and having a socket member soldered to the wire forming the hook an efficient and simple snap-hook is provided, especially adapted for use in connection with fish-hooks or for other purposes.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A snap-hook comprising in combination with a fiat tapering socket member, a single piece of Wire having aloop formed at one end, the shank portion of said wire passing through said member and secured thereto, the end of 65 said loop being bent at an angle and fastened within said member, one face of the member being longitudinally recessed and adapted to receive the flexible end of the wire, a portion of said member adjacent to the recess serving as means for retaining said flexible end in a locked relation, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM COOPER.
