Description
V. F. GRAHAM.
WASTE BASKET EXTENDER. APPLIOATION FILED AUG. 24, 1909.
1,116,265. Patented Nov. 3, 1914.
WITNESSES INVENTOR W 6 Emmi [I'm/5am ATTORNEY THE NORRIS PETERS CO., PHOTO-LITHO., WASHINGTON, D, I
UNITE VERNON F. GRAHAM, 0F VANDERGRIFT, PENNSYLVANIA.
WASTE-BASKET EXTENDER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VERNON F. GRAHAM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Vandergrift, in the county of VVestmoreland and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Waste-Basket Extenders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a new and useful improvement in waste basket extenders, and has for its object to provide an exceedingly simple and effective device of this character which may be secured to some object such as a desk or counterind which will hold a waste basket so that the same may be kept beneath the desk or counter when not in use, and which may be extended or drawn out from beneath either of said objects when said basket is to be used.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of the character described which may be adjusted without removing the bracket for regulating the distance to which the basket will extend beneath the object to which it is attached.
With these ends in view, this invention consists in the details of construction and combination of elements hereinafter set forth and then specifically designated by the claims.
In order that those skilled in the art to which this invention appertains may understand how to make and use the same, I will describe its construction in detail, referring by letter to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in
which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improvement, a portion of the bracket being broken away to more clearly show the pivotal pin. Fig. 2, a plan view thereof, and Fig. 3, a side elevation on a reduced scale showing its application.
In carrying out my invention as here embodied, A represents a bracket having an attaching plate B whereby it may be attached to some object such as a desk or counter G, and a head D.
E is a pivotal plate having a depending pin F formed therewith in proximity to its inner end, said pin being revolubly mount- Specification of Letters Patent.

ed in the head D of the bracket A. WVith Patented Nov. 3, 1914:.
Serial No. 514,351.
the sides of the plate E are integrally formed the projections G and H, the projections I-I being directly behind the projections G, and through these pass the ends of the wire I, said wire being so bent as to form a loop J in which fits the basket K, it being understood that the basket must belarger at the top than the loop J so that the same will rest within the loop.
In the lugs II are threaded the set screws L, the inner ends of which bind upon the ends of the wire I thereby holding the same in its adjusted position. By loosening the set screws the wire I may be adjusted so that the radius of the circle in which the loop J revolves may be made smaller or larger, causing the basket to extend a lesser or greater distance from beneath the object to which it is attached.
In practice the device is secured to some object such as a desk or counter so that the waste basket carried thereby will be beneath the same and out of sight, while not in use and when the same is to be used it may be readily drawn out from beneath the object to which it is attached so that waste paper may be placed therein.
Of course I do not Wish to be limited to the exact details of construction here shown, as these may be varied within the limits of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, is
In a waste basket extender the combination of a bracket comprising an attaching plate, a head having a vertically extending bore formed therein, an arm connecting said head with the attaching plate, a horizontal plate provided with a pair of apertured lugs formed on each side and extending latterally therefrom, the rear lug on each side also having a threaded opening therein, in communication with the aperture a depend ing pin formed integral with the last named plate adjacent one end thereof and adapted to fit into the vertically extending bore in the head, whereby said last named plate is adapted to swing in a horizontal plane, a loop formed from onecontinuous piece of wire provided with projections extending parallel therefrom in a horizontal plane and slidably mounted in the apertured lugs, and fixed my signature in the presence of two screws threaded into the threaded openings subscribing witnesses. in the rear lugs and projecting into the apertures for engaging the loop projections VERNON GRAHAM 5 for holding the loop in its adjusted position Witnesses:
substantially as shown and described. C. V. MCCREIGHT,
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto af- RAY S. GRIMM.
