IMPROVEMENT IN DENTAL PLUGGERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 218,321, dated August 5, 1879; application filed November 26, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
. Be it known that I, CARL SCHAERFF, of the city of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Dental Pluggers, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to furnish an adjusting mechanism and adjustable case of the bit-holder, attached to the main case of the dental plugger, which is satisfactory in its use and simple in construction and it consists in details of construction hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, in which similar letters of reference indicate like parts, Figure 1 is a side view of the device embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same.
The adjusting-arm K, Figs. 1 and 2, is aflat little bar provided with a ring, by which it is fastened to the lower part of the case B of the bit-holder. Through the flat and rounded-0E head of said bar is made a hole to receive the screw I, which is one of the two screws run- 11in g from both sides to a certain extent through the jointed head-pieces of the main case B and the said case B, and which, as far as they go through the headpieces of case B, are left smooth, to allow the moving of the case It of the bit-holder in the joint and to render the same adjustable. The said screw I, being smooth at the part near its head, holds the head of the adjusting-arm in place, and serves at the same time as its pivot. The heads of the screw I and the adj listing-arm K, Fig. 1, are set in a recess made in the surface on the side of the head of the main case B, which recess, opening below outwardly, indicates thelimits between which the caseR of the bit-holder is adjustable by the adjusting-arm K. Aboutin the middle of said arm, between its head and ring, is a set-screw, L, Fig. 1, resting in said recess in case B. By means of this set-screw the adjustable case B of the bitholder is kept in place, and held in any desired position or angle with the main case B, within the limits of the recess.
I am aware that it is not new to provide a dental plugger with a plugging-point holder adj ustably attached to the main case or stock, so that the angle may be varied. I do not, therefore, broadly claim such as my invention.
What I claim is-- The combination, with the main case B, recessed, as shown, and the bit-holder case B, of the adjusting-arm K and set-screws I L, substantially as described.
