Letters Patent No. 63,700, dated April 9, 1867.
IMPROVED BLACKING CASE.
TO :ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, CLARE-Yen E. BROWN, of Northampton, Hampshire county, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improved Pocket Blocking Case; and I do hereby deciere'thut the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to' the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon. In these drawings, forming a part of theserspecifications- Figure 1 represents a section cut vertically through my case; and
Figure 2 shows the different parts in detail.
This invention consists of an arrangement of blackinghox and brushes inn compact and convenient form. so as to occupy very little space, and adopted to the necessities of travellers.
In construction I form my device of a cylindrical case, A, having room inside for the brush B and C, and being closed at one'end when not in use by the blocking box I), which forms a lid for it. The blocking brush B, which is intended to' be the polishcr, is formed with a, handle, a, which may be arranged as is most convenient for the purpose, and it occupies, when enclosed, the space between the brush C and the other end of the case A when closed up. The brush 0 is attached to a band or cylinder, 6, which,"with it, forms the lid to the blocking box D 'containingihe blocking. This lidis made so as to fit acertain size of the blackingboxcs usedin commerce, and when it is wished to supply the case it is only necessary to take the lower part of the proper size of box and adjust it to the case. These cases may be made of any suitable substance, such as sheet tin, vulcanized rubber, wood, 85c.
By this means Ihave a complete set of blacking utcnsils in a compact and water-tight form, making a great convenience for travellers and excursionists who are obliged to limit themselves as to baggage; besides, my article, being put up in a cheap and simple manner, including all necessary apparatus, renders it quite an item in ordinary household furniture. I i
Now, having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A blocking case composed of the exterior shell or case A surrounding and containing the brushes B C, the latter brush 0 being provided with a rim, 6, formed so as to fit over and support the blacking box D, all these parts being arranged in the manner end for the purpose herein shown and described. 7 I
