Be it known that I, C. L. LOCHIAN, ofA Carlisle, inthe county of Cumberland, and State of Pennsylvania., have invented a. new and useful improvement on a Box for Indelible Ink and other purposes; and I do hereby declare that the following ls a full, clear, and exact description of thc construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, in which-` Figure 1 is a perspective View, and

Figure 2 a longitudinal section.

I construct the body of my box with pasteboard, or its eqnivalent, and it can be made round or of any convenient shape, and I edaptto the same a bottom and top made out of nood, both being` rabbcted on the outer edges towards the inner sides, so that ,they slide into the pastebonrd body to the extent of the rahbcts, fitting closely, and may be'so held permanently with paste or tacks, or left so as to be morable,`as desired.y A. box so constructed is much stronger than un ordinary pastebourd box, as thc'top niid bottom arepthe parts that give way rst in actual use. When the box is made to hold an indelible-ink bottle a holeis sunk in the bottom part for its reception. This forms a convenient stand when it is removed from the body of the box. The top has a groove sunk around the periphery, and is provided with an elastic band o1' stretcher, which is used by removing it from the-box, andthe fabric or goods to be marked nre placed over the top, (which may be removed from the pasteboard.body,) andthe elastic bend is forced down on the sides of the lid, over the fabric, and kept in place in the recess or groove. The fabric is thus held and kept stretched for being ivrtten .on more conveniently. A is the body of thebox; B, the top; C, the bottom; D, the elastic band o1" stretcher, and E the receptacle for the bottle.

I am awarethat there is an English box wholly made ot' wood, und opens only at the bottom, and has a wooden (inelastic) stretcher at the' top. Such n construction I do not claiini.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-l 4 1. As n new article of manufacture, u. pasteboard box with'wooden top and bottom, constructed substan- .ially as set forth. A
