Beit known that I, NELSON CARL, of Cincinnati, Hamilton county, Ohio, have invented a new and useful Extension Table; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and Vexact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanyingV drawings, making part of this specification.

My invention relates to that class` of tables having two principal parts capable of being drawn asunder so as to expose a sliding frame for the reception of one or more extra or additional leaves; and my invention consists in a provision whereby bot-h parts draw equally away from the slide or middle portion, the main frame of each ofl the principal parts performing the function of a slide, and the middle portion serving to hold the extra leaves, and thus to dispense with a separateor extra rack for that purpose.

Figure 1 is an inverted perspective view of a table embodying my invention.

Figure 2 is a horizontal section of the slides of a larger table on the same plan of construction.

A B are the two main pa1ts,'their frames, A B', having cleats, C, and rails, D, to guide and confino aboX, E, adapted to receive and hold all the extra leaves, which box constitutes the eritension slide. The main parts A B are supported ou legs,F, and the box E is supported on legs, G, which legs G, in conjunction -vith the rails D, limitl the extension of the table, and preserve the parts from entire separation. Fig. 1 shows a table of medium size, but the principle may be extended to longer tables bythe introductionl 0f one or more intermedi ate slides, H, (fig. 2.) l

The essential characteristic of my improvement is, that the slides, instead of drawing out wholly from one end,'and narrowing down to the other end, draw out from both ends equally, and narroiv only to the middle slide, which is thus left of ample width4 and bearing to rmly support whatever leaves arel placed upon it, and which being boxed in at itsends, affords a receptacle for the loose leaves, which thus dispenses with the necessity of the usual clumsy rack or chest for holding the leaves; preserves the latter from marring and injury, while it neither costs nor Weighs so much as one of the customary form of tables.

I claini herein as new, and of my construction- The combination of the central boxed slide E, and legs Gr, with the ends A B of the table, forming the outer slides, the whole constructed and arranged to operate as and for the purposes described.
