Be it known that I, WOLFINGER, ot'. Chicago,` in the county of Cook, and State oflIllinois,.have invented a new and useful improvement in Extension-Tables; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use -the same, reference being had'to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in whichi Figure 1 is an under side view of my improved extension-table, partly extended.

My invention has for its objectv Ato improve .the construct-ion of F. Osgood's extension-table, patented January 2, 1866, and'numbered 51,855, so as to malte it capable of a greater extension, while occupying no more roomwhen folded; and it consists'in forming the end rails in three or four parts; in the combination of two` stripsIor parts of the top of the table with the middle parts of the end rails; in the combination ofthe two v stripsl or bars to which the central legs are attached with the middle parts of the end rails; in the double-jointed hinges in combination with the central parts of the end rails and'with the extension folds of the table; and in the combination of loose leaves with the central strips `and with the central extension folds, the whole being constructed and arranged as hereinafter more fully described.
A are the end legs of the table, which are attached to the side rails B and the end rails C in the ordinary manner. The end rails C are made in three or four parts, according to the amountof extension required. The drawings represent it as being made in four parts, e1 e'l e3 e. D are the end folds, which are hinged to each other and to the parts of the end rails, and E are the central folds, which are hinged to each other and to the parts of the end rails. The folds D and E are hinged to-,the lcentral parts e2 c3 of the end rails C by double? jointed hinges `F, so that they may be folded up compactly. G G2 G3 G4 are the leaves of the side extensions. The'leaf G4 is connected to the leaf Gr3 by flexible hinges and dowel-pins, and the leaves G3 G2 Grl are connected to each other by ordinary hinges. The 'leaf Gz is connected to the side rail B, by hinges. This enables the leaves to be folded together, as shownin iig. 2, the leaves Gr3 and (Si4 folding into recesses formed in the end 'rails C for their reception. The end leaves G whenlraised are held up by the spring-racks H, the lower ends of which enter notches formed in the side rails, and which, when the end leaves arelowered, pass beneath the frame ofthe table, as shown in iig. 2. I are narrow strips or leaves of the top ofthe table, which are permanently attached to the central parts e2 e3 ofthe end railsC. J ,are strips or bars attached to the under side of the' central parts e2 ea of the end rails C, and to which the central legs K are attached, as shown in iig. 1. are buttons, which are pivoted to the edges ofA one of the strips or bars J, and which may be `turned up, 'to connc part of the folds E when their full extension is not required. M- are the loose leaves, which rest upon lthe central folds E, and form the central part of the top when the table is fully extended. When the table is folded, the parts of the end railsC are secured to each other by hooks N, as shown in iig. 2.
I claim as new, and desire to secure by. Letters Patent- 1. The end railsl C, formed in three or four parts el e2 c3 e4, in combination with the central folds D, substantially as herein shown and described.v
2. 'I he combination of the narrow strips or leaves l with the central parts e2 e3 ofthe end rails C, substantiallyas herein shown and described. l
3. The central strips J, having the legs K, in combination with the central parts c2 and e3, cud folds E and central folds D, substantially as described, for the purpose specified.
4. The narrow leaves I, resting upon the parts e2 e3, in combination with the leaves G Gr2 G3 Gt, as herein set forth, for the purpose specied.
5. The arrangement of the leaves Gl G2 .G3 G" and narrow strips I, whereby the leaves G2 G3 are folded upon the end rails G, having the leaves G2 and strip I in theV samellorizontal plane to form the top of the table, and the leaf Grl folding down over the ends of the said leaves. G3 G", as herein shown and described.
6. The leaf G2, hinged in y an elevated position upon the side rail-B, and supporting the.lcaves G1 and G2, the outer end of the leaf G1 adjusted by the spring-catch H, as and for the purpose specified.
