IMPROVED MACHINE FOR ROLLING; LEATHER.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN Be it known that I, J. H. WALKER, ofthe city and county of Worccstem and Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented Certain new and usefulV Improvements in Machines for Rolling Sides of Leather; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to l the acconipaiiying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a front view of myimproved machine.

To enable those skilled in the art to which myinvent-icn belongs to make and use the same, I will proceed to describe it more in detail.
In the drawings, the parts marked A A are the upright frame-pieces, made fast at the bottom to base-pieces B B. The upright pieces A A* are united at the top by pieces C C, and the upright pieces at each end are also connected by cross-pieces D, to give the frame strength. Truss-rods E E pass from the endpieces atieach end over thebridgefpiece F, which rests upon the tops of the pieces C, to thc under side of which is fastened Vthe horizontal tongued way G, upon which the slide-piece H works. Freni the bottom of the slide-piece H project the arms a a, between which the roll I is journalled. Pitman I'connects the slide with-the wheelJ, by means of which a reciprocating motion is impartedto the slide H and roll b. K is the table, upon which the side of leather to be rolled is placed. Table K is supported at each ond by-'theipright pieces AA, and is slotted or cut out in the eentrevto admit ythe face L of the hinged table M to pass u p,.as shown inmedland u f dotted lines in the drawings. One end, d, of a toggle-joint or lever rests in a recess in the base O, while thoupper end, 4e, of the same lever works in a recess in the under side of the hinged table M, theicentre of said lever being connected to the crank P by the hinged-rod Q. `Crank Pis connected to ashaft or journal, which is supported und turnsin'the upper end lofthe stand S, upon the projecting piece T. Foot-lever U is fastened near itsrrear 4end to the end of theshaft orjournal to which the crank P is fastened. A weight, V, is arranged .upon "the rear endif, of4 .the footllever all as fully shown in the drawings. N
The operation is as follows: Power being communicated to wheel J, in any convenient mannega'rapid "kf reciprocating motion is imparted toslide H and roll Z2. The operator now pla-ces a side of leather upon table K, under the roll 6, and then presses upon the foot-lever U, thereby causing the parts .to move into the positions shown in red lines, the face L of the hinged table M passing a part of th'e side of leather up to the action ofrollb.-
It will be seen that the operator can cause the leather to be pressed between the face L of table M and roll b with `any desired degreeof ressure, and that he can readilymcve the side of leather to roll any part of i tlesde. The machine is compact, compared with the old style, in which the roll b is inserted in the end of a 1 long pendulum or lever..
Having described my improved machine for rolling sides of leather, whatI claim therein as new, and of my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-4 1. The combination of the horizontal way G, slide H, and roll with tables K and M, and treadle-operating device, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
2. The combination, with the pieces C C, of the truss-rods E E, bridge F, way G, and slide H, substan tially as and for the purposes set forth.
