Letters Patent No. 69,148, dated September 24, 1867.
IMPROVED LADIES WORK-TABLE.

TO ALL WHOM IT MAY GONCERN:
Be it known that I, JOHN WOOD, of -Lowell, in the county oi' Middlesex, and State of h'lassachusetts,`have invented new and useful improvements in Ladies Work-Tables; and l do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof', reference heilig had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked. thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in providing a work-table with a suitable box or receptable for receiving sundry articles of work, also a tray divided inte numerous apartments, for holding the requisite instruments for the ladys work. To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
Figure 1 represents avertical section of my improved worltable.
Figure 2 represents a plan of the tray.
ft represents the table; b, the cover; e, the tray; and d, the work-box. a represents the table; its outside may be ornaniented and finished with carved, inlaid, plain, or perforated work, to accommodate and suit the trade. The ferm, as shown by the drawings, is of an inverted octagon hollow cone, which is furnished with its requisite feet for support, but can be made round or of any shape that will leave thcinsidc hollow. In the top of the'tabLa, a recess is formed for the reception of the tray e; below this recess the work-box tl is formed, which is suitably lined with any desirable material, the cover or" this box Z being the tray c. The tray e, being made of the required size and shape, with its numerous apartments suitably lined and cushioned, is then placed in the recess. The cover I), which forms the top of the table a, when closed, is hung by a hinge on one side, its under side being lined with cloth; its edge, opposite from the hinge, is provided with a suitable lock to fasten down the same. The table a, being thus made and finished, is then ready for use, the tray e containing thc necessary articles and instrument-s which the ladies require, the box Z containing the work, and when not used for this purpose the cover l is closed down and secured; it then makes an elegant and beautiful article of furniture, and an ornament to the room.
