T ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, W. L. DEWEY, of Bridgeport, in the county of Fairfield, and State of Connecticut, have 'invented a new and improved Napkin-Holder; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art -to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings', forming part of this specification.
The present invention relates toa novel holder for a napkin, which holder is constructed with a base or pedestal suitable for standing it upon a table or other surface, in combination -with the ordinary ring, or other suitable form, for holding and securing the napkin when placed therein. In the accompanying plate of drawings my improved napkin-holder is illustrated- Figure 1 being a plan view of the same; and
Figure 2, a central longitudinal vertical section.
A, in the drawings, represents a base or pedestal, which in form and shape may be of any desired as well as any style of finish or ornamentation which may be thought suitable. B, two arms, made of a curved shape, which arms may be formed of one continuous piece of metal, o'r of two separate pieces. These arms are secured to the upper'side of the pedestal A by` a screw, rivet, or other suitable fastening device, and from such pedestal they extend upward in opposite directions, forming nearly a complete circle, as shown, their upper ends being bent over into a rounded shape. In and between these arms to the base or pedestal A the napkin is placed, which maybe done by either drawing it through them from one side to the other, or by forcing it down between their open ends, the two arms having suiicient spring and play to allow of such insertion of the napkin, while, at` the same time, they will hold it in its place. 4
A napkin-holder of the form above described is, as is obvious, neat and tasty in appearance, and most desirable for use, as by its base or pedestal, when stood upon the table, the nnpkinis held above the same, and without coming in contact therewith. In lieu of the open jaws for holding the napkin, a continuous ring may be employed. di
I claim as'new, and desire to secure' by Letters Patentv l As a new article of manufacture, a napkin-holder, constructed as described, consisting of the pedestal A, into which is screwed or riveted spring-arms B, in one piece, and forming nearly a circle, with their ends bent over atD, as herein shown and described. l ,k
y WM. L. DEWEY.
