Laim Patent No. 79,824, ma` July 14, 186s.v
lMPROVBD DISH-COVER'.
TO ALL WHOM IT-MAY CON CER Be'it known that we, HUDBARD S. Gorrand FRANKLIN M. Gori?, both of MiddletownLMiddlesex county,` State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Adjustable Dish-Cover; and we dohereby declare` and to the letters of reference marked thereon. In the drawings- Figure 1 shows a side view of our device in one position ofparts, and
Figure 2 a diagram of the same, with another .position of parts. Y
This invention consists of an adjustable'dish-cover, which is arranged upon'the ,dish in such Ia manner that the substance 'in the dish may be covered or uncoveredj at pleasure, without taking it entirely off and laying it aside. i Y
that the following is'a full and clear description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings,
'In construction, we placeour cover upon a slide, composed of one or more vertical pieces, A, attached at' their bottom endsY to the dish, at or near the outside rim of the same.
In the drawings, the .cover B isv'ar'ra'ng'ed upon the. slide 'formed of th'e bent wire A, attached at eac'hside of the dish C, at D and D, and spanning across the same at a proper. height to let the 'coverB be raised suilif eiently high to allow the substance contained in the dish to be taken conveniently. Springs a a. are coiledaround the upright portions of the Wire A, between the place ofattachment at 'the'botto'mf andV the sleevesQE upon the cover. These springs, nithis ca se, keep Athe eovei` always up, except when it isl locked down by means of the spring-figure at the top, which springs under the top hcrossewire when the cover is forceddown upon the dish, the wire resting across a notch formed at' the top ofthe gure by thelconformationof the head. The figure has a spring, v(hat the front a'nd foot, which tends always to` throw it backwards, the bot-tom ofthe figure being pivoted or hinged to the top` ofthe cover, upon a pin, H. i
In some cases we do not use springs a aupon the slides, and the weight of the cover keeps itdown, and it is fastened up by means of a notch formed in theA part ofthe top figure, opposite the cross-wire,-when the top is fully up. A similar notch, I, is dotted inthe drawings. i
Various similar methods of forming this device'may be made without aiiecting the principlehere shown. For instance, we sometimes use a single upright, A, on one side ofl the dish, and a set-screw inthe sleeve on the cover, and they are in this case made without the spring-figure at the top.
By this means we obtain a neat and useful device, by which articles of food may be keptsecure from iiies,
dust, Snc., while (lished, -an'd in times when it is impossible to secure them otherwise than by keeping them con-- stantly covered, even while. upon the table. I
Having described our invention, what we claim as` new, and desire to secure' Letters Patent, is-
1. The arrangement of the cover B of ,thc dish, lupon 4one or more vertical pieces A, so that it slides .up or down, and can be fastened up or down upon the -dish at pleasure, substantially in -the manner described and shown. V y
2. The arrangement of the iigu're hinged utthe top of the cover, andno'perated by the spring G, so as to form alock, substantially as shown. i HUB'BARD S. GOFF, FRANKLIN M. GOFF.
